What tires should I get for my 2701SS?
Hi Everyone!
I'm new to this forum and this is my first posting.
We bought a 2008 Rockwood Ultra Lite, model 2701SS, a week or so ago. Now we are waiting for warmer weather in the great white north to pick up our TT. We've gone to the dealer a couple of times to pick up odds and ends and did take a quick walk through.
I've been reading all the comments on Carlisle tires in these forums and found out that our TT has Carlisle tires as standard equipment. The radial tires on our TT are:
SIZE ST215/75R14
LOAD RANGE C
MTD DIA. 26.8
MTD WIDTH 8.2
RIM WIDTH 6.00
MAX LOAD CAPACITY 1870
MAX PSI 50
I have read in other messages that the delivered weight of our TT will probably be a bit over 5200 pounds. (We have the entertainment center model.)
Are the standard tires safe, properly maintained?
Carlisle has a "D" range tire. Specs as follows:
ST225/75R15 LRD 28.2 8.8 6.00 2540 65
Would these fit under the trailer? They are 3/4 inch higher.
Or should I just ask for a different brand of tires? My dealer seems to be willing to change the tires, probably at a bit of a price.
Any suggestions?

Welcome to FRF.
Properly maintained, I believe your present tires will be fine. That's my opinion. Others may differ.

these are same tires i have on mine. my tires are marginal due to the potential weight of over 11000 pounds
i havent towed so i dont have any experiences with carlisle. i would recommend you read the detailed posts regarding several peoples experiences with these tires.
at some point i will plan to replace the tires on the new campler with a different tire and i will be looking around for a E grade tire probably, 10 ply if i can find it. i have seen post on cooper tires and maxis i think

All four tires inflated properly will be ok, however if you loose one and are not able to replace it while towing Forest River suggests not to tow with just three tires, the one tire will not support the weight of the camper, you can cause more damage.You are at the largest tire that is offered in a 14", the next size up is the 15" series, your rims have to be changed, I suggest to contact the axle manufacture and or Forest River. If you don't make a change at this time it was suggested in earlier post to have your tires balanced, this is a good idea. Don't forget the spare!

I may suggest that You ask for a Load range "D" tire be installed instead of the "C" that would give you a "safety Factor" as far as tires. They just might do this for free, or a small cost. which should be cheaper than going with a 15" wheel and tire. but the weakest link is what will break if it breaks. I run load range "E"s on our trailer for a safety factor. but ours is a large trailer to say the least.

According to the list you can not get a "D" rated tire in a 14". The next sizes is a ST205/75R15 "D" rated with a max load capacity of 2150 lbs. then the next one is a ST225/75R15 "D" with a max load capacity of 2540 lbs.

We went out to our dealer today and talked with them about tires. As others have mentioned we are pretty well stuck with a 14 inch wheel and a C range tire. The service guy talked with someone at "Tire Rack," who he trusted, and that is what they concluded. We are getting Goodyear Marathons in place of the standard Carlisle tires. The service manager likes the Goodyears better. He said that Carlisle had "issues" in the past but now they seem to be doing better.
We looked and measured and planned some more on our trailer. I asked about 12V outlets and they mentioned that there was only one somewhere in the area of the TV antenna booster amplifier. They will replace the two overhead 12V light fixtures in the bedrooms with ones having a standard 12V outlet. We have a couple of cheap 12V fans we used in our pop-up that would be nice if we were boondocking or camping overnight in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
