Where does the water filter go?

Our dealer did not install our water filter (we found it in a drawer during first trip out). Where does it go and how to you install it?

I don't think they ever install them (although it would be nice). Probably best for you to learn how to do it yourself as you'll want to know how when you replace or if you ever winterize (but you're in FL, so maybe you don't).

Anyway, I'm not familiar with your exact model and don't know where in the trailer its located, but the following is general enough that I hope it helps you.

  • Turn off the water pump at your control panel.
  • Find your water pump and nearby you should find an inline canister.
  • Place down a towel and a bowl under the canister to catch water and use the canister wrench that came with the trailer to loosen it counter-clockwise. Unscrew the rest of the way by hand.
  • Place your filter inside the canister, tighten up and test for leaks.

The instructions should also be in your trailer's manual (although it may be useless in its description).

are you asking about the actual water filter assembly or just the filter cartridge?

if you're talking about the cartridge, which is what i had in the drawer, the filter assembly is usually in the same area as the water pump.
but the cartridge that came with mine was too fine. i replaced it with a more porous cartridge.

Ok, this might be a stupid question but what happens if you don't install the filter but use the water. Is it just not filtered or will water leak.

we went a long time without installing the cartridge. no problems except water was not filtered.
finally found a more porous cartridge that didn't affect water flow and installed it.

If you use non chlorinated water (well water for example) you might have a problem with algae growing in the plastic filter container.

Without the filter in place water goes directly from the inlet across the top of the filter body to the outlet without much mixing. If you do not remove it completely you might look at making a PVC tube the correct diameter and length of a cartridge and drilling a big hole (or holes) at the side bottom to allow water to enter the center of the tube; travel to the bottom them up to the outlet. This should eliminate the algae buildup.

Algae requires sunlight to grow. This is why you cover a swimming pool in the winter. Unless the filter is somewhere that sunlight can get to it, you will not have an algae problem.

Thanks for all the responses. We haven't located it yet so my DH thinks it is under the tv in the sealed cabinet. We can't check until we put the slide out, but will let you know.

Can you hear the water pump when you turn on the water? It's right by the water pump.
