Question windjammer 3029 TV?

Looking to a windjammer 3029 with my new 2016 f150. I figure it will be within the numbers But we have never towed anything that long 35' or that close to TV limits (1750 payload minus 600lbs for stuff, 10600 tow limit.) Anyone shed some light on how this would work from experience. Also we want to spend a couple months in Florida for winter, just the two of us and the two Goldens. Any suggestions on an alternative that wouldn't bee to cramped?

Thanks all.

2016 Ford F-150 S-crew, 4x4, 1750 payload via door sticker, 10600lbs towing, 3.5 twin turbo Ecoboost, 3.55 rear, MAX Tow package, Goodyear Wrangler 20" tires ( I think, truck not here) looking for real world experience not a numbers reply this is not going to be on the road that much, numbers support it is do able but don't want to spend entire trip getting beat up or having issues with its length. perhaps someone who spends a couple months living in unit and towing with half ton. maybe another model I should look at. Just can't justify the expense or use of a 2500.

You need to know numbers. If you don't know your numbers and you don't know the responder's numbers, then you can't use anyone's "real world experience."

So you'll need any responder's numbers and the numbers of what they're pulling to ensure that they have a TV and TT similar to yours.

1/2 ton TV's are not all the same.

I do not have experience with your particular combo, but I do with light trucks and long trailers. Remember, you're pulling a giant rectangle. Although the windjammer has the nice nose, the sides can catch a lot of crosswind. This can make breezy weather driving a bit interesting. Also, consider where you're going to be going. Towing on flat land is a breeze, but if you're close to a max number and will be pulling good hills (Like the Sierra Nevadas) you may want to look to something a bit lighter. My 0.02.

I know the number are close, but within, if someone has a different unit they use for a two month stay I would be very interested in how their setup works out for them and what the setup is. I have been viewing previous threads on this also.

Thanks

Not the same, but in the ballpark: I tow our Flagstaff 832IKBS with a '14 RAM 1500, 4x4, 5.7L with 3.92 gears. (10,200 lb tow rating) No V-nose on mine and it's MFG rated weights are slightly greater than the 3029.

That being said, The hitch setup will be mega-important. It is a heavy trailer and with the bed-slide it's very nose heavy. I've got a 1k Equalizer and the bars are under serious tension to get everything leveled out and happy.

My combination was not terribly comfortable over 60mph until I replaced the 40k mile OEM shocks with Bilstein 5100 series shocks. I also changed to Maxxis 8008 E-rated tires with Dynabeads for balance. Now it tows brilliantly as fast as you want to fill the tank.

I still keep it between 60-65 to reduce the fuel stops a bit.

Also - echoing bshort's comment about hills - I monitor all my temps religiously while towing. Tranny temps in the RAM are no issue it never varies more than 190F maybe plus 2 degrees. The engine oil temp is another story. On very warm days (95F+ ambient), towing at 65, if it has to use 4th gear to hold speed on a sustained hill, the engine oil temps can get up in the high 240s pretty quickly. I would not recommend this heavy a trailer for REAL hill towing for this truck without a serious add-on oil cooler.

Thanks did you do anything more to your truck like airbags, extra leaf to springs to assist in leveling out the weight. Your info was what I was interested in seeing.

I tow a 35ft V-lite and total weight loaded is 9000# I have a 3/4 ton 6.0 Chevy with 4:10 gear. Does quite well even in mountain type situations. I also use a 14000 # 4 point equal-izer wdh. Later RJD

Nope. Stock suspension other than improved dampers. With the WDH set correctly, the RAM 1/2 ton has plenty of spring for it's rated towing capacity. The shocks they use from the factory just don't last past initial 36K warranty. (There were substantial differences in rebound of the old shocks after I removed them.) The new dampers which are slightly stiffer valved than OEM (Though not enough to annoy my wife as the RAM is her DD) add plenty of control for the load.

I'm hoping you meant you had a 10K (i.e., 1K tongue/10K trailer weight) Equalizer??

They're usually described by the trailer weight, not the tongue weight.

Those Goodyear Wranglers thankfully have a short tread life as they are P rated tires. They are soft for a soft ride and certainly not good for towing and even less desirable towing near max numbers. Personally, I'd go with a lighter/smaller trailer or bigger truck. Just my $0.02 but will bet you will not be happy towing that setup and will be looking for a bigger truck soon anyway.

You are quite correct. 10k.
