Unhappy Windjammer awning "bang"!!

Every time I extend the main awning on our 2016 Windjammer 3029W I get this big bang from the awning that shakes the trailer. Sounds like it's hanging up on the front strut and then letting go. Retracting is fine.
Had it back to the dealer and they say it's a know problem with Windjammer awnings because of some delay in the mechanism.
Sound fishy to me as the second awning over the dining room slide never makes this noise and it works fine. Both awnings have the metal shield that covers it when retracted.

Anyone else had this problem??
Many thanks,

I've seen this too. I don't think there is anything to get too excited about here. Have your wife push the extend button while you go out an watch it. Seem as though it kinda gets overcenter and the gas shock takes over and takes up any slack in a hurry

Mine does this also. I believe Jeff64 is correct in that the geometry is over-center and it has to get past that. I haven't seen any rub marks on my awning arms or on the brackets so I have just lived with it. My awning does roll in slightly crooked, but the DW pushes the switch while I apply gentle pressure and it winds up just fine. I am sure a wind gust twisted it slightly, but I am not going to try to twist it the other way and risk breaking something.

Ours sometimes does it. I've never noticed anything bent or binding when rolling it in or out.

Mine does it too. I saw a video on youtbue that stated it was because of the motor being on one end of the awning and causing the awning to torque a little when it;s being opened.

It doesn't take much to put a slight bind on an awning. Extend the awning and make sure the material is exactly centered on the roller and then pop rivet (thru the side hems) both ends of the material to the tube. Note: run the awning in and out a couple of times to insure it is centered BEFORE pop riveting the material.

I have the same issue with mine. I just run it out slightly then give it a nudge with my had and then it rolls out. No biggie. Material looks to be centered. Later RJD

Hi was having the same problem with my awing arms not opening and then snapping open. I have a 2015 flagstaff V lite wikss diamond. The 3025 is rockwoods twin sister to the wikss. Dealer had a dometic rep look at awning and had them install two rubber bumpers in the arm tracks that help give the arms a kick open. The bumper arm kit is MFG # 331077.00. So fare no problems with the arms not opening and coursing the awning to snap open.

Hope this helps Tim

After installing self-storing awning tie-down poles, my awning developed this same symptom, although I have never seen it as a particularly big deal, as it never truly "binds" or appears stressed. I usually just stop after extending the awning about half-way out, which encourages it to "catch up". The front strut then pushes it up to level with the rear and it extends normally from there. I wonder if this is the flip-side of adding a little weight to an awning with the self-dumping feature, which requires that the mechanism be a little loosey-goosey to begin with.

I'm wondering too if the tension on the knobs that would hold the awning in the lowered side position (for rain runoff) doesn't have a great bearing on this condition. I could see where having both really loose would let the awning freely slide, but, just snug enough to slip/slide would hold it in place while deploying until sufficient force was exerted by the gas shocks to overcome that tension in one big hurry. BANG!

Good info, thank you.
Mine are a little loud when first being deployed, but don't shake the whole TT.

I get it in our 2304s regularly. Bugs the wife but after watching what is happening, it really doesn't look like much to worry about.
