Windjammer dual batteries?

After a 10 year hiatus RVing my wife and I are considering getting back into it. I've been waiting for the local dealer to get in some new Windjammers and in particular the 2609. Looking at various photos on the net I have yet to see a dual battery set up on any of the v-nose models. I'm assuming it's possible to stack them but haven't seen any so perhaps not? Anyone using dual batteries on their Windjammers? If you have any picks of your setup that would be most appreciated.

I too like the Windjammers, they seem to be a great value. As to your question I don't think any trailer (except higher end) come with a dual battery configuration. As I recall the dealer installs the battery. I'm sure it would be an easy mod and well worth it. Also I would consider dual 6 volt.

THe only dual setups I have heard of involve putting the batteries inside the trailer in the closet in the front bedroom units which I personally would never do. As to stacking them, you would need to make one seriously strong frame to safely support the top battery in the stack. I would seriously consider getting a Trojan SC225 12v battery. So far the inability to easily use dual batteries is the only deficiency we have found in our V-Lite.

I also have a Windjammer. I wonder if you could mount two batteries on the rear bumper over the frame. It would be a lot of heavy wire needed but you would not to stack the batteries. I also do not know if it is DOT allowed. I would not put batteries inside the TT because of the gases that are produced when chargeing.

I have a 3065W on order and the dealer told me $110 no problem to put on 2nd battery, but I didnt question how...my issue concerns how it would fit with a ProPride hitch...if it is stacked that would work!.

I just emailed the dealer..I will post what they tell me..I once added a 2nd battery to a Pioneer, but there was room in the battery tray behind the propane tanks...was easy on that unit.

Dealer just emailed me back (quick!) and says batteries go on side by side and that will clear hitch bars....I will have to investigate that further.

Have you looked at the pics on Pro Prides site of the WIndJammer with a propride? Boy that hitch is awefull close to the ground because of the bottom mount ball coupler on the trailer.

Thanks for the information guys. While I like the floor plan the lack of easily mounting a second battery may be a deal killer. I had duals in my last trailer. I may have to reconsider and go with a conventional front plus an inverted coupler is something I wasn't aware of. Supposedly only a couple more weeks until the unit I'm interested in shows up at the dealership.

FR needs to build them with a vented battery tray compartment which would solve the problem, similar to the Cougar X-lite XV series.

What size of propane tanks are used? 20s or 30s?

I am pretty sure the V nose units all use 30lb bottles, ours does. I am including the link to Proprides pics of the Windjammer and the bottom mount coupler. You will see adding a second battery is not going to be easy as well. You also need to figure out how to access the propane bottles as the doors don't have the access panels the ones in pics do (atleast my V-Lite dosen't)

Even with the access panels is would be a pita to change tanks. The hitch is in the way of the large doors. It traveling and hd to change tanks would have to remove hitch to get tanks out. This might be a great hitch but IMO not a good one for a windjammer. My consern with the batteries side by side on the front is that they might also block access to the propane tanks.

We have a 2010 2609 and it comes with two 30 lb. propane bottles. The battery is a group 24 deep cycle. A group 27 or 31 could be mounted in its place to have a higher capacity but two batteries would have even more capacity.

I'm having second thoughts about the Windjammer. The 2608 may be a better choice for me. I'm trying to keep within the same weight and length. Not having two batteries on board makes me a little apprehensive.

My son-in-law has figured a bracket to stack the batteries if the side by side doesnt work out. The issue of the towers that torsion the equalizer bars is a little more problematic, but another V nose TT owner stated that he just loosens the 2 bracket bolts and slides the tower forward to clear the propane doors. with 60 lbs of propane on board...I don't know how often I would need to do that...I am NOT going to be cold, I know that, but would think not needed very often. Moot point for me, however, because I have a ProPride on order.

I had the dealer add a second battery as part of the deal. They both fit just fine right behind the tongue jack. This is the best pic I have right now.

I can either get 2 12s and get a tray fabbed up for the front or have them fab a box to mount them on the rear bumper. I dont think a couple of 6v batteries will fit on the front hitch.

I just bought a wind jammer 3006w and had them put two 6v up on the tongue. They fit up there nice.
