Windjammer learned a new trick
So this past weekend we were camping in Indiana and it was cool. We had good 30 amp service so we had the fireplace heater on with the TV. not much else was on electric and the water heater was on propane. I decided to risk tripping a circuit to use the microwave for a few seconds. As soon as the MW came on, the fireplace shut off. Not the TV or anything else and no tripped circuits. When the MW was done, I turned the fireplace back on and it worked fine. Of course, we had to test this new trick. So the next morning, I did the same thing: TV on, fireplace heater and added the coffee pot. Started the MW and off went the heater. Could there be something in the converter doing this? At our summer site, I tripped the 30 amp circuit outside at the power pole a couple of times - usually the AC and MW pulling too much juice. And there we know there isn't full 30 amp service. So why did the fireplace cut out like this?
thanks!

I keep thinking about this, but have no answer. Interesting though.

Because running the fireplace and the microwave at the same time will have you over loading the system. A minute or so after the microwave shuts off I can hear a beep on ours when the relay resets.

Thanks! Good to know the WJ has this protection built in. I don't usually run the fireplace heater and MW at the same time. We didn't hear the beep but with the TV on we could have missed it or thought it was still the MW.

Fireplace Test
We have a Windjammer and I keep telling the wife why is that fireplace shutting itself off. Well I just did the microwave test and yup the fireplace shut down. So at least I have an answer for why. Thanks McTroy and we will see you guys in a couple weeks at the Amish FR rally.

The fireplace definitely shuts off when the microwave is turned on. Too much amperage for the circuit breaker. No big deal.

I would think any unit having a fireplace and a microwave on a 30 amp hook-up would have the feature. According to the monitor for my Progressive surge protector the microwave draws 15 amps and if the fireplace on high is usually 12 amps. Circuit breakers are only supposed to see continuous current at 80% of their rating, or with 30 amp circuits = 25.5 amps.

On my Vlite I have a switch near the entrance door that flips 1 way for fireplace and the other for the MW. Can't run both at the same time of course. With it switched to FP, the MW is totally shut off, not even a clock showing.

Same with my Windjammer 3065w, a toggle switch to the left of the door below the main power switches . You either have the fireplace or the microwave, I can't do both. The switch will not let you. Its not an issue with me, just have to remember the switch.

My Windjammer is 30 amp. The switch is only hooked up to the microwave and fireplace. Everything else works as it should, I usually run my water heater on shore power. I can run the TV, fireplace, water heater the same time. Even the coffee pot works well. Maybe I should run the water heater on gas to help with the amp draw.

Never heard of that switch before; very interesting. Was that an add-on, or did it come new that way? I just looked at your model trailer, and that's one of the nicest floor plans I've seen on a TT. Very impressive, and if I ever went to a TT, I would be looking at that model.

Why thank you for the compliment!
And yes, the switch was OEM.

The 3008W has no such switch, the fireplace kicks out as soon as you start the microwave I have never heard a beep and it does not trip the breaker. It is just something we noticed on day 1 and never thought twice about it, we usually turn off the fireplace first but sometimes we forget and it just goes out on its own and turn it on when we are done.

Ours does the same thing. I read somewhere that the MW and the fireplace are on the same internal circuit.
