Are Surveyors rare?

I was at Myrtle Beach last week staying at a beach house with family. We toured MB Travel Park, Ocean Lakes, Lakewood and Pirateland - basically to scout out where the better sites are, and see if we could get some ideas on camp site set ups, etc.

We are new at camping - have a new SV210. Of course as we rode around I was looking for Surveyors. Keep in mind that all of these were nearly full campgrounds - I think maybe I saw a total of 6 or 7 Surveyors. About 1/2 appeared to be 2009 models (or at least had the same decals as my '09) There were litterally dozens of Wildwoods, Rockwoods, Prowlers, etc.

Just wondering if this brand is really that rare?

We will be at MB Travel Park Labor Day weekend - shouldn't be hard to pick us out, will probably have the only SV210 there and one of a few Surveyors. Anyone else going to be there?

We've also noticed that Surveyors are rare. In all our travels we've maybe seen a dozen at different campgrounds.

I've seen more Surveyors this year than I've seen since we bought ours in '07.

May be rare but an awesome RV. We do see the occasional Surveyor; but a lot more Jayco's, Outbacks, etc. The people I've met with Surveyors invariably like them though . . .

I kind of enjoy having the only Surveyor in the camp ground. We've had people ask us about it and it gives us a chance to meet new people.

I too recently purchased a sport 186 and have not noticed many surveyors out there. In fact I could not find a local dealer who handled them.

Yes, we too have noticed that the Surveyor can be a "conversation piece". I think people must be attracted to them or they wouldn't be asking about them. We get lots of nice comments from people about the Surveyor.

They are not rare here. I have one in my backyard. We camped next to an identical SV 291, just exactly like ours a few weeks ago.

On our last trip we saw one just like ours (SV233T) and several other Surveyors at the campground.

I have to be honest, if we were buying on the way the pre-08 surveyors looked from the outside only, we would have kept looking. The gray/maroon decals are BORING. But, we loved the floorplan,features and build quality. The $12k off MSRP didn't hurt either!
I think the exterior color change has made a big difference in he Surveyor image.

I am planning to order the 3 inch lift kit for the axel from Forest River in the next week or so. You Surveyor owners out there know what I'm talking about...always looking out for the dump valve clearance, pulling into a gas station with too steep of a slope comming off of the road and dragging the tail etc...
If you want to go ahead and order the lift kit you can call Forest River at the following number:

It's about $100.00 dollars and do it your self. They will need the VIN number of your TT. as they put different axels under these puppies and the kits differ. Will let you know about the install on my 2009 SV 291 in the next few weeks.

Now that is interesting, a lift kit. I kind of like it lower than some of these other campers that seem so high they are ready to go through a foot of snow. Good point about dragging the tail, the dump valve does seem low. Interested in how that turns out.

We have a new SV 294, I scrape those triangular things alot. Although I think it makes a huge difference in how it tows being low to the ground also. On another note I see a lot of older Surveyors but very few newer ones.

After owning this TT for over a year (14 months) and putting over three thousand five hundred miles on it, I have come to the conclusion that the SV 291 needs just a little bit of lift. I do not think that three inches will make a great difference in stability or gas milage. I tow at 55 to 60. I may be wrong....won't be the first time I have been proven wrong, just ask my wife. Ordering the kit next week. Will keep yall posted.

One of the reasons we bought our 235RKS was the low stance. But we don't have nearly as much overhang as a 291, so not a problem for us. Looking at your photo, can see the issue.
