Unhappy Awning Collapse

So. Immediately after setting up a quick burst rain squall passed. The "auto-dump" feature of my 22' awning didn't work. I went to retract and it wouldn't move. In a moment...slow, creaking bending of the forward (first) and the rear (next) support arms. Then it dumped.
Several very experienced campers (and mechanics) helped me unpin the arms from the shock pistons, and re-bend the aluminum enough to get the awning retracted. We secured it with zip ties and continued on camping for 5 days. We declined the offer of coach net to come out and remove the awning and stow it in the camper (!!??) (the flat trailer tire is another tale)
Made the 500 mile trip home ok . Camper is now back at the dealer...6 weeks or so is the scheduled repair time. (under warranty...seems that the gas strut was frozen). While there....the tv will be connected to the sound bar (as it should have been in April), a couple of other items "fixed", and hopefully we'll be able to camp again in late July / August.

Sounds like the 6 weeks is for the new strut maybe? Seems like they could call you when the parts came in and keep it for a week rather than 6. At least you could use it for the summer..? That has to be extremely frustrating.

Yes. It. Is. I'm going to predict a decayed / discharged battery. Oh, the need for a disconnect switch becomes obvious, in hind-sight. I think they wanted to have eyes-on the damage / temp repairs before committing to a warranty repair.

let them see the damage order the part and call you when it comes in so that you can use your rig.

Sorry. Is it at Plemmons or CW? If you are at Plemmons in Raleigh, any issues, ask for Wells. he was very helpful with all of my issues. You do have to stay on top of them and double check behind them to make sure it is done but once they do it, it is usually done right. If CW in colfax, well all I can say is call every day and don't buy the waiting on warranty approval (don't ask how I know!!!!)

It's at the dealer in Lexington, NC. My Dear Wife is on it like a hound on a hot trail.

Country roads was very helpful with an awning repair on our old TT a couple of years ago. They got it in and out in the same day. Good luck with it.

I hope so. Once sighted, and parts ordered, it seems like a 2 hour fix. I'm thinking 2 weeks should be the max needed. I think 6 weeks is the standard answer. DW will be in close contact, of that I'm certain.

I am old but someone much older than me said to aways bring in awning before storm, if you leave camper and at night. Followed his advise and never had problem. Saw new Surveyor owner's awning collapse during quick storm one night at campground last year; talk about ruining a camping trip. It was wind and not rain that broke support arm.

While at the beach 2 weeks ago I heard a storm coming in the middle of the night, I got up and angled one side of the awning down, fortunately it was just a rain storm, no wind.
