Awning Over Slide Bad Design

We love our Surveyor 33RETS but the one thing about it that really bugs me is the awning extends over the slide actually making the awning useless except that it covers the door. It gets in the way of installing a slide topper and it rubs the slide, I am going to have to put pipe insulation over the edge and corners. When we ordered it the picture had the canopy towards the front of the trailer. Below is the sales picture:

My speakers, tv jack, outlets and porch light are towards the front in the 8' uncovered area, we tried using a pop up, works but not my favorite solution. I have looked at bag canopies but the Surveyor may be too tall, Nobody makes 7 or 8' canopies, has anybody else run into this problem? Below is a stock picture of how ours looks:

Most of the 2016's I found on line have the awning up front.

Awning looks useless to me. Have you asked your dealer or fr about this?

The dealer said it is that way because the ones up front were too short and people complained.

I don't know why but I have seen them both ways, dealer says it is the factory's choice on how it is done.

Who should I contact at FR and what if anything can they do?

If they're the same size either way, maybe you can just have it moved forward?

Unfortunately it can't be moved foreword, the awning is too big, I want to say the awning is 22'

Too bad they cannot modify into two awnings?

One for over the slide itself and then another for over the door towards the front but that would leave holes where the front awning hardware is now.....just a crummy design plan !

Did you know there was a possibility of this when you ordered?
This is why I rather buy off the lot.

The dealer told me it would come as shown in the picture (awning to the front), when we saw it we almost didn't purchase it with the awning position. The DW didn't want to wait for another one.

When I showed the dealer his picture that is when he said the factory makes that choice as there is no ordering option for the canopy.

I have a 2015 32RLTS and I have the design that covers the front slide. It makes it almost impossible to tilt the awning for rain water run off. I use a piece pipe insulation for the top of the slide. Click image for larger version

It looks like a lot of space under the awning is lost. I would be disappointed also.

My unit has the same design with the awning over the kitchen slide I like the idea of using pipe insulation to protect the awning the upside is it keeps rain off that slide I don't have slide covers on mine yet but am thinking of adding them

How? He ordered a unit and it arrived with the awning configured different. At that point he could of rejected that particular unit as I had to do when they delivered our first Rockwood for other reasons. He elected to purchase regardless so in my book nobody was gypped? I'll be the last person who will defend FR or any other RV manufacturer out of the blue as I don't drink the kool aid but come on. No one was gypped.

On top of it read the disclaimer about this very subject on the website and every brochure ever printed.

I have been asking FR if there is a way to put a small awning towards the front. What I have been told is they changed awning vendors and the rear awning is the only one offered. I can live with the awning. I am looking at a screened in pop up canopy for the dining table and relaxation chairs.

I do not fee gypped, we opted to purchase the camper with the awning, the rest of the camper is awesome and we couldn't ask for more. The bike rack, residential fridge, fireplace and increased inside room makes up for the awning many times over.

Great attitude. Enjoy your new toy.

What do they come with for batteries/inverter for the fridge? Just curious.
