Axle lengths are 1/4” different

While changing my brakes I noticed my axles were different lengths. Is there a reason for this.

Axles either double or triple should have the same length hub face and spring centers. 1/4” is out 1/8” either side, probably no problem.

I would be more concerned if the hubs on either side were 1/4" different in space front to back. The axles and brake drums may seem to be 1/4" wider due to the bearings and races not being as tight on one instead of the other.
