Biting the Bullet on a SP295BHS

Hi all,

I'm a newbie who has been lurking here for a while, deciding on which TT to possibly purchase. I come from a pop-up (years ago) and wanted to get back in to camping so here I am. I was at the MD RV show the last two weekends and narrowed it down to the Surveyor Sport SP295BHS. With 3 kids I needed the bunkhouse and headroom (I'm 6'5") and love the outdoor kitchen. Anyway, I went to my local dealer yesterday and got what I think was a good price. I basically priced all of the available options except the 15K BTU air conditioner. Now I am thinking that I should get that also since the dog days of summer here can reach high 90's with lots of humidity. For those that have the upgrade, do you think it is necessary in a TT of this size? Will the AC affect re-sale value?

The dealer is going to call me tomorrow with loan rates and will probably be looking for a decision (which at this point is a YES), I am really excited (and nervous). Wish me luck and hopefully I will have the TT in about 6 weeks!!

I would get the A/C For the comfort value alone. Easier to have them do it now then to try getting it done after the fact....

I don't think the upgrade is very much if done pre-build. I would def opt for it, I'd rather be able to turn it back a bit than swelter because I didn't have it. As far as resale, I don't think it will affect it one way or another.

I think it was only a $350 upgrade (50A and AC). You're probably right, kind of minimal compared to the total cost. Thanks for the feedback.

Well I did it!! They threw in the 15K A/C (only $200) so I placed the order.

Now a LONG 6 week wait. At least I should have it before Memorial Day. Time to start stockpiling all the needed necessities.

We had a sp295 and loved it. We now how a s305 and love it too. The surveyors are great campers!

Thanks for the welcome. I've been going crazy on buying all the extra "necessities", this may cost more than the RV itself!! About 3 weeks to go!

I think you are going to enjoy this a lot more than the pop-up you had in the past. That outside kitchen will give you lots of room for cooking and if it rains you can run the family inside. Pop-ups are a bit more clammy in rainy weather so you should keep everyone good and dry in the new trailer. Good luck with the new unit!!!!

welcome to the forums from a fellow Spt295'er. We've had that model since October and have really loved it. It is perfect for our needs with three girls, haven't yet found something I wish I had on it.
Ours has the 15Btu AC, but we've not had much need for it yet. I can say the furnace works well though!
The only thing I've changed is adding a foam mattress topper for each bed - made a huge difference in our sleep.

I got the 15K AC also, wasn't that much more cost. I also got the Serta mattress upgrade. I am sure I will still need to add the foam topper as the Serta is still a little bit away from my Tempurpedic at home!!

Welcome also have the SP296 an I am 6'4" and love the headroom, after the first trip I went to the local furniture store and purchased a nice queen mattress and now I sleep better in the camper than at home. The other thing is search on here about the outdoor tv block and order the bracket makes life easier if your going to use the tv outside.

Got her home!! Everything went well at delivery, one screen in the bunk house was bent and missing the rod to open the kitchen shade, nothing serious. Got the Progressive Industries Surge Protector installed Sunday, just waiting for the first trip next weekend, can't wait!

You're gonna love it! How did your tow vehicle do pulling her? Just take your time backing her and have extra eyes watching...I got stubborn and backed mine in to a tree on my blindside and did some minor cosmetic damage...nmade me sick but I just co yu ldnt wait for extra eyes backing in to the site. Lesson learned!

Congrats on the SP295. I purchased a 2013 SP295 and we love it. Three kids and two dogs. Glad you got the 15k A/C... it'll keep things comfortable through the summer months.

For the size of trailer, it's fairly light on the tongue. While multiple and deeper slide outs are appealing, I can haul it with my 4-wheeler in the p/u bed to deer camp with zero issues (electric brakes, weight dist. hitch and sway control)... with a 1/2 ton truck.

Thanks! Went on our maiden voyage 2 weeks ago and had a blast. The outdoor kitchen was awesome for cooking breakfast (and also makes a good liquor counter!!).

Does anyone have a problem with the outdoor kitchen door not being high enough? At times I find myself having to duck under the door? If so what's the fix?
