Black/Gray tank drains, which is which?

Just bought a 2007 Surveyor SV 230.There is no labeling describing which drain is which. On my trailer the forward drain, closest to and behind the rear wheel, has a T-handle that moves forward to drain. The rear drain, closest to the back of the trailer has a long T-handle the goes toward the passenger side and disappears through the underbelly covering. Which is which?

My guess is that the rear drain is your black water drain, as it is closest to your toilet. If I'm looking at the correct floor plan for your trailer, the toilet is in the rear of your trailer - is that correct? Your forward drain sounds like it is directly under your kitchen sink, so it is likely the gray water drain.

If still in doubt, put a half gallon of RV antifreeze down your kitchen sink, and then open your drains to see which one drains pink.

The bigger diameter pipe is tha black tank and the smaller one is the grey tank.

I think my unit has a gray handle and a black handle? Unit in storage, so not 100% sure.

Unfortunately, both pipes are the same size and color.

There's no labeling on pipes, handles or the side of the trailer.

Put a clear adapter on it and take a lucky guess! You will find out instantly which is which. Then label it or mark it somehow

you may have two gray tanks, one for the galley and one for the bathroom sink and shower.
the black tank pipe is ALWAYS a bigger diameter pipe than the gray, unless the factory screwed up the installation.

All I can say is, "DOH!" I don't know how many times I looked at those two drain caps and said "those are the same size!" I finally looked at the pipe before the drain valve for the one I can see (the other is above the underbelly covering. Sure enough, the pipe is a smaller size.

I don't remember seeing this on my previous trailer. But then again, they Y-ed together and the valves were clearly labeled.

Thanks everyone.

We can only learn from our mistakes. If we make no mistakes, then we have learned nothing. You were given the correct advice and looked and failed to see that it was correct. Looking a little deeper, you found that it was you that was in error and you learned from your mistake. You then took that a step farther and told us about your 'Ah-ha' moment. This shows great character and honesty. Enjoy your new '07 camper

Blessings
