Campground Lost my Keys

I store my trailer at the campground that I frequent, but unfortunately they lost my keys. I am trying to contact the factory to see if they have records of my keys so that I don't have to resort to replacing the locks. I have a 2005 SVT291 Surveyor. All the e-mail addresses that I have found on other posts have been returned from the postmaster. I know that Forest River wants us to go through the dealer, but the dealer say he no longer has records on my trailer since they switched to a computer based system. Thanks

Is there a number stamped on the tumbler? If you bring a picture and that number to a represent dealer they may be able to reproduce it. At the minimum they may be able to Id the manufacturer of the lock, who you can then call for a replacement.

Do you have AAA? Maybe their lock out service could cover this? Or Good Sam?

Have you tried asking someone you know there if you can borrow their keys?

You never know, you just might get lucky.

Since your storage facility lost your keys, I'd be asking *them* to foot the bill for re-keying or replacing the locks.

Is the dead bolt locked or just the top lock? If it is just the top your local dealer will have a master key to open the door. The dead bolt is not master keyed.

Excuse me for asking...

I don't and never have parked my TT in a storage facility so I am completely naïve to the rules of engagement. But I have to ask, why does the management need my door keys?

This link may be able to help if FR doesn't, as it explains where your key code is located:

Fastec (FIC) RV Locks & Keys | Global Link RV Locks & Keys

Your door keys are different from your compartment keys (which is a CH751). The CH 751 is the same key on about every RV made. Anybody's will work on yours.

They produce master keys that will open all the locks. These companies say they only ship them to authorized locksmiths, but I'm sure the smarter thieves have them. Just letting everyone know, so they don't put a whole lot of faith in their RV locks.

Also, the RV dealer may have a master key, that you can use to get into your RV, to assess the locks and read the codes

Yes,
our dealer told us there are only like 6 different keys for all campers,

kind of like master locks,

I take it that you don't have a set of keys other than the ones you gave the storage place. I tend to over think things so I have 4 sets - one is on my key ring, one goes in the truck as a back up and 2 sets are at home on separate key rings. I used to store my TT at a warehouse storage and they required a key which is how I ended up with 4 sets.

As someone else said, it isn't your problem. CG should take care of it completely, then they should send the second key to you.

As mentioned above, every dealer has or should have a set of master keys.
My dealer buddy, says they all have a set at our dealer, and they will open every trailer on thier lot (unless someone has changed thier locks out).
Heavy equipment is the same way, every brand has 1-3 keys that will operate most of thier machines.
I bet that rv master keys can be had on ebay, but I haven't looked....yet

I'm sorry but I see no reason for my storage lot to have keys to my rig Period!! For what reason would they ever have to enter my rig??? I could possibly see them moving it around as needed, but there's nothing inside needed to do this. As far as the keys, take apart the handle and get your key code if it's not stamped on the outside. Any dealer can get one or already has one. And do your self a favor get a few extra!! Good luck

The OP sent me a PM saying his wife was supposed to put the spares in
a safe place. She can't find them so they are locked out.

Obviously he's learned his lesson - now.
As to why the CG needed his keys, unless the OP comes back and tells us
it's all guessing.

Lots of good suggestions about what to do if you're locked out!

As far as keys go (and yes, since the OP has his answers, I am thread
hijacking a bit....) my pet peeve is my 2 door trailer requires different
key for each door
How hard would it be for FR to use keyed alike locks on a trailer??
You wouldn't stand for a car/truck/suv that had different key for
each door but we just go along with the status on our trailers.....
