Yup. Lots of different brands have failing gel coat on front caps. Generally seen the most on dark noses. My guess there all buying from the same place. Solution,,,,, paint it. Hope factory will step up to the plate, but if they dont painting is your only real solution.

You didn't explain the problem and the pictures are poor, but it appears that either the paint job, gel coat, is not holding up or you may be starting to have some de-lamination.

The caps on a tt or 5th are probably the first thing I would worry about, especially on an entry level unit. I was just reading about a water leak from a cap on a Born Free unit where the seal had split and allowed water in.

Water leaks are one of the worst problems an owner can be faced with.

Yeah, repaint as suggested above...part of what goes with ownership.

BTW, have you considered/tried polishing compound followed by a good wax job? The pictures really look like white coming off the roof and washing down across the nose.

Read about this in Trailer Life but haven't used it, had the cap done several months ago under warranty.

Wipe New ® The product is Rust-Oleum Wipe New ReColor.

Just a thought and we will try it when the cap needs it done again.

We will go out with the 5th wheel this weekend....

When/IF my end cap begins to fade I'll hope the factory offers some help or I'll have it done on my own. If need to be on my dime, there will be no factory decals on the cap either. May have a cute slogan added instead or a mural....

I have a 2015 Wildwood. I had lamination problems on mine after 18 months and less the 1200 miles. I was able to get Forrest River to supply the panels after a handful of phone calls because they were saying it was rock chips which some were but there were also contamination spots. After the repairs I pulled the trailer home 12 miles only to find another rock chip. Is the gel coat really that lousy? Should I start using a full length rock guard on my hitch?

One reason i purchased SOB was standard painted front and rear fibreglass caps and high gloss fibreglass on the sides. FR could not supply this without a over priced full body paint.

One other idea you could use. If you stay with one or two colors. Add the "clear coat" and like the DP buses cover the entire area with "Diamond Shield" from DuPont. Stuff is very effective warding off sand and gravel. Add wind abrasions.

I had gelcoat fade if that is what you what to call it. Took it to the dealer and they painted it and put new graphics on it under warranty. I had my 5 wheel for ten months be for I noticed it.
Later Donald

looks like run off from the roof. It's hard to tell from the pictures. I have seen something similar when they condition your rubber roof and do a sloppy job of it. you get streaks and runs down the side and front.

Maybe but looks like could be abrasive damage and my units with decals stained evenly, didn't leave decals looking new. Just thinkin. Orig fiberglass very poor quality.

Some people have had some success getting the manufacturer to replace the front cap. You might try that but from what Ive read on here the success rate is pretty dismal.

I found and used a product on my 5er. It is called Poli-Glow and it worked VERY well. It is not a wax at all. It is actually a water based polyurethane finish. The kit contains everything you need to clean off the oxidation and apply the Poli-Glow. I am not affiliated with them in any manner but I highly recommend their product because it is easy to use and the results on mine have been nothing short of spectacular.

You can find it on eBay, Amazon or direct from Poli-Glow

Good Luck!

You could have it wrapped to match the Original front cap decals

That is one of two reasons I'll never buy another FR product, service after the sale is pitiful at best.

Hey rxrodr3, We also own a 2016 240RBS and also had a problem with early oxidation on the front cap. Long story short, FR replaced the cap with a new one that supposedly has an automotive clear coat. Time will tell. The thread chronicling our experience is here:

http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...es-119617.html

Hope that helps!

Has anyone just clear coated their existing cap before it got bad? Mine isn't too bad, just the very top is starting to go, but it's not visible from the ground.
