Electrical moron DQOTD...
My SP 240 is rated for 30 amp service. Can I use an adapter to take advantage of a 50 amp service panel in a campsite I plan to visit?

yes, just get a 50a to 30a adapter. most CG's that have 50a sites, have 30a outlets also in the box.
very few CG's are 50a only.

Save your money and forget the 50 to 30A adapter. I've yet to see a site post with 50A not also have the 30 and 20A outlets. The 50 to 30A adapter still only allows 30A to your camper.

Sauder Village in Ohio only hs 50 / 20's, however they will let you use one of their adapters. I would get the adapter-

Although having the adapter is not a bad idea, you could always call/email the campground ahead of time and find out if their power posts have 30A /20A/15A along with the 50A.

I've been in campgrounds that had 50 amp only. They let use one of theirs but I had to put a $20 deposit on it.

I stand corrected...I've never seen the need for that adapter before.

i've only seen one that had a 50 and a 20 in Kentucky near the evans williams bottle plant. they loaned the 50/30 adapter. that mix certainly hasn't been the norm.
i was hoping that u weren't wanting to adapt down to take advantage of the higher amps available. ur 30a main in the trailer should protect the trailer. the supply line wont b as protected. the only time that would come into play is if something happened between the site and ur main...not very likely.

I can see where you would say that Dave. I've never seen one without 30 amp either. Never say never huh? I don't have an adaptor and I'm not going to get one. I would save the money too.

To the OP-- Wally World has the adapters.
I agree, get one.
I've seen CGs in WV with only 50 on some posts.
Also stayed at a private CG in MO that had both kinds but the site
we wanted had only 50.
The owner offered us a loaner adapter with no deposit but I wanted
to use my brand new adapter
So to chime in with the rest, yeah, they're out there.

I've only had to use ours once. We were in a campground that catered to Class A Motorhomes, but allowed fifth wheels in too. The post was 50 amp and 20 amp.

I had to use mine when I parked the camper 6" too far away from the post to plug in ( darn ). Luckily the DW is quicker on the draw than I am and before I could start dropping everything to move the camper she produced my foot and a half long adapter with a "ta da"
I love smart women
