How to open manual awning
I'm borrowing a friends 32' Surveyor eco-lite trailer and they have me spooked on opening the awning. About 10 times they kept telling us not to open it cause we could damage it or the wind to damage it. Well, I must not have heard them well. How do you open this thing. I unlocked the latch on the right near the canvas and loosened the lock downs on the supports but when I pull the strap it feels like the top doesn't move and it started to unwind. Is there a manual I can download or can someone explain how to open it for me

There is a lever on the right side of the roller that must be flipped. It is the button on a ratchet, only let's it go one way. When you are ready to roll it up, have good hold on the strap, down close, pull the strap to relieve tension, then flip the lever. Spring tension will roll the awning back up. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD HOLD ON IT or it will slam the side of the trailer, and may bend/break things, then you will no longer have friend that will loan you anything, or even wave when you go by.

I think the OP knows about the latch on the RH side, may not have used the correct terminology.

thanks for the help and the video's maybe I flipped the latch the wrong way. I'll retry in the morning. I just didn't pull on it too hard cause they had me so worried about the thing. I appreciate the help and the warning. I shouldn't have to close it cause they are coming at the end of the week but don't think I could take another day in the sun. Thanks!

When they come and find the awning open, you may not have friends anyway.
Good Luck.
Also, just a thought, could they have problems with the awning you aren't aware of, and that's why they didn't want you to fool with it?
One last thing after reading original post again, did you press the gray latches above the lock down knobs, to unlock then from the travel position? At least they are gray on my awning. Must be pressed in from the sides.

And don't be like me ... the second time we took our first little trailer out I decided to use the awning...damned if I didnt get my arm caught between the trailer and awning arm as it slipped away from me...painful and embarassing, good thing the DW was inside at time...she came to the window and in a low voice (i didnt want the rest of the park to hear me) DH: 'I need help...I have my arm caught...DW: what? DH: i have MY ARM CAUGHT IN THE AWNING! sigh...thank god for electric awnings.

I think you should respect your friend's wishes and leave the awning alone. They are trusting you with a valuable resource.

When you return it (hopefully in 1 piece  ) ask them if there is a problem w/ the awning or not. Maybe there is & they aren't sure how to get it fixed.

Figured it out, there were black clips locking the extensions in place. Thanks for the help and it is still in one piece. I didn't want to be the only person it the park without the awning out 
|
