The reviews on the plate that blocks the water from going into the filter are awful. Lots of leaks with it. I would not suggest that route.

Oh no .... just went to put the filter in for the first time and pulled right off the wall!!!@ Also, guess you have to take pressure off the system first?!!

Take filter element out when you winterize and put new one in each spring. Yes they are a pain and not in a great place but you only have to deal with them a couple times a year. Much more hassle IMHO to deal with an external filter every time.

I'll attempt repair today. My dealer is 40 miles away and not worth the fuel to take it just for that!

I have the same filter at home on my well. It's impossible to get the housing to break loose with pressure on the system. I turn off the pressure from the well and open one sink valve to let the pressure off, and I can then open the housing by hand. I agree that it's in a bad spot, but not that bad. I brought my 2012 SV-264 home yesterday for the first time. We're gonna LOVE it, especially compared to our 2012 Shadow Cruiser 185FBS...

Good luck with it!

Took the opportunity to slightly relocate, more toward the front of the cabinet. 1" long screws vs the shorties they used. Sweet!

With the way this thing is, I believe a funnel could be made from a 2-litre coke bottle and a short piece of hose. That will keep the water spills down. If the pressure's off, this should be fairly easy.
