New Guy.

Hello All, I am close to buying an 06 SV-264 from the orginal owner that I know from work,he and his wife just do not use it anymore and have moved on. The pics he has sent me show a Very clean well kept unit that has plenty of room for me an girlfriend(no kids). I am 51 and thus will be my first RV. Thanks to this forum and my brother-n-law that has a 5th wheel I feel like I have a good feel of what to look for in a used unit. My only hold back is if my 04 Envoy( 6cyl,short WB) can actually tow a 28ft unit, the weight is in the Envoy range, its the lenght that worries me a bit,the solid bar weight dist hitch is included. outside grill is still in the box and a dump dolly comes too. Any thoughts? Asking price is Payoff which is around 6.500, so there may be some room for say new tires.

For now...
Are you planning to buy a new TV after you get the TT?
Our F150 is within about 1000 lbs of GCWR and 200 lbs GVWR with the SV264.

shoot.

was not planning on upgrade of TV,but looks like I may have to. One of the reasons we like this unit was the lite weight of it,really do not want to go to smaller trailer. Guess I have to think on this one.

Weatherj, I believe most writers here will tell you that your 6 cyl Envoy is not large enough to tow a 28' TT. caper's chart shows that the weight of a fully loaded 28' trailer would exceed your towing capacity. There has also been discussion in this forum that the wheelbase of the TV shoud be 5 times the length of the TT. Your 28' x 5= 140" wheelbase. Your Envoy is shorter than that I believe.

If you go to the seach box at the top of the forum page and search towing capacity you will find several good discussions on this point.

Welcome to the forum. This is where I learned most of what little I know so far.

Thinking about it and doing the math is a good idea so you know where you actually stand with your desired setup.

BTW Welcome to the forums!

We will still go sat an look it over good.Unit is about 3hrs west of me on I-10. If we really like it I will pay him to tow to my house till I get a better TV. We have looked at sooooo many 22-24 ft units but they just seemed too cramped, you can fry eggs on the stove from the bed. Just the 2 of us but we still like some space,so it really depends how much we like it when we can see an touch it.

There should be a list inside one of the cupboard doors that will show the actual dry weight of the trailer you are looking at. It will list the weight of the trailer with all the options installed.
