Rear slide without stabilizers on the Surveyor 235 RKS
Another discussion about what comes first during set-up, the slide or the stabilizers got me thinking about my Surveyor Select 235 rear slide. What are the risks in putting the slide out and perhaps forgetting about the rear stabilizers or leaving them until later in the set-up. The tongue weight on our trailer is 490lbs before putting propane & battery & other items so probably closer to 600lbs. Unlikely the slide on its own could upset the apple cart but what about a couple of adults on the slide. All the weight combined with the fact that it's extending out the back.
Any risk of going nose up if someone were to forget?

I think you'd be hard-pressed to tip it with so much in front of the axles AND it being a dual axle, but I don't know much.
I was in a pop-up (happily sleeping, mind you) when it decided to turn into a seesaw once. Scared the beejeebees out of me!

Never had an issue with ours out, not stab, and people on the bed. Just to much weight forward for it to be an issue. I usually put the rear stabs down first, then put the bed out during set up, but not always. I have not noticed that it makes any difference on the order.

I first level side-to-side, then chock, then level front to back, then stabilizers, then the other stuff.
It's always a good idea to go back some hours later and re-tighten the stabilizers; especially if you are on any dirt of softer surface.

hi:
I have a q that I needs a answer too....I'm a first time rv owner and a first time buyer and I have selected a surveyor 235rks model as my purchase;I have a choice in a 2012 and 2013 model(leaning towards the 2013) ;however my q is "has anyone ever had any issue with the slide for the bed in the rear"; both are beautiful rv's and a great choice for a family of 4.....going to be hauling it with my crew cab sierra 4x4 with a 4.8 engine(still has trany cooler and posy traction rear with 3.42 gear ratio)......thinks it should match up beautfully for gas mileage also.

I have had to have my slide repaired. I think a few others have as well?

you've got a number of issues if you expect to be able to pull a TT with a GVWR of almost 7550lbs.
small v-8 with poor towing rear end ratio and the heavier crew cab.
the trailer does have a large CCC that you will probably never get to but it doesn't change that your truck has a poor configuration for towing heavy trailers.
and not sure what you're expecting as far as gas mileage. you'll get worse mpg than the 5.3 v-8 because of the smaller engine. nearly everyone gets between 9-12mpg towing TT's, no matter what, unless they have a diesel or Ecoboost engine.
yours will be on the lower end of that range.

Issues, Yep, but nothing major on mine that I could not fix. Any slide out has the possibility for problems, rear bed slide or any other type of slide. I would look at the mechanics of the slide on the 12 vs the 13. Don't know if they changed or not, but I know there is a new slide system on the market that FR is using on some units. I would tend to agree with bikendan about the 4.8 vs the 5.3.
