Shower plumbing

The shower is plumbed into the black tank. Forest River is saying that's the way it is. Any suggestions to help?

Because the black tank gets filled up way to fast - and then waste backs up into the shower... I can see if the sinks get plumbed but the shower?

Ah, I understand.
I seem to recall a conversation about that in a thread, it had something to do with regulations but I am not positive.

Many people do this.

While others use the bath house at the camp ground.

Only other option is to dump more often.

What model of Surveyor do you have?

Can you get to the pipe that comes from the shower? If you can cut it off and cap the end that goes to bw tank then re plumb it over to the gray water tank. Just an option if nothing else works. You are right the black water if over fills will back up into the shower and even if it doesn't the smell could. Not Right and the Forest river Guy should know this along with the dealer.

We got a camper so we didn't have to use the bathhouse - and if guests come over just forget about it!

But anyways the model is the sport 2013 296

We are going to look about re-plumbing it. I'm still going to try with the dealer. I just feel like I'm getting no where!

Understand the dealer thing, I don't know why RV dealers are the way they are, you can call them and call them and if your lucky you get through to someone but usually the wrong person. Made 6 calls and played phone tag the customer rep from 2 different dealers , for 2 different trailers, also sent numerous emails finally gave up and fixed it myself . Was Cheaper than hauling the trailers down to get it fixed. All I wanted was them to send me the part that I found broke 2 days after our walk through. Bad Service.

I would think that this would violate some health laws... mine has it's own gray tank for the shower/lavatory, and a separate one for the galley.

did the dealer say that's what FR said or did you talk to someone at Surveyor?
cause FR is the corporate organization. you need to talk to someone in the Surveyor division.

I would get the number of another dealer. give them a call see what they say. If the other dealer says the water isn't supposed to go to the black tank ,[which I'm pretty sure its not]. then confront your dealer with the new info you have. good luck

The dealer might not be allowed to fix it if there is some sort of newer rule about shower water? Seams incorrect that the shower drain leads to your black tank. I though the black tank was for human waste. Everything else is non-biological and therefore grey water? Meanwhile, If you can get to the piping, I am sure the black and the grey tanks are very close together, and you might be able to change the plumbing yourself. Some of the dealers carry various plumbing fittings etc. and I would bet they have the fittings to make it work. I leave my grey water open when we are camping when we are connected to a sewer. Shower and sink water drains there, and I dump my black water once or twice during our stay.

... and so is anyone who tells you to "just use the bathhouse."
If the dealer is not better help than this, go to Surveyor management as has been suggested.

I have a 2014 Surveyor 220RB Sport, I definitely know that the shower drains into the Grey Tank, since on the maiden voyage my wife and I filled it up in 24hrs. LOL

Lesson learned.................

From the Recreational Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA):

Plumbing Systems as specified in ANSI/NFPA 1192 Standard for RVs.

· Only listed plumbing devices, fixtures and appliances that have been labeled by nationally recognized testing agencies are allowed.

· Water distribution systems are sized to provide adequate flow rate and designed to prevent backflow contamination.

· Fixtures with traps and vents must be provided to protect against siphonage and back pressure.

· Vents to release gases from any waste holding tank must be provided.

Tell the fellow that your vehicle does not conform to ANSI/NFPA 1192.
Exactly, whose agent are you talking with?

Problem Solved?

I know this post is a couple years old, but I am wondering if you ever got anywhere with this issue? I have the same trailer with the same frustrations. I brought it to several different dealers trying to get someone to re-route the shower but everyone says it is not possible.
