Newbie here looking for some info...My wife and I are looking at a 2010 SP189 we found for $8.800...Are there any issues that we need to zero in on before purchasing? We haven't owned a trailer in 20+ years and even then it was just one of those 70's models with a stove, furnace and ice box (the kind you used ice to cool)...My truck is a 2012 Silverado 4x4 crewcab with 5.3 V-8, so towing shouldn't be a problem...Any tips I can get will be greatly appreciated...Jim...
Bought a new sp189 in September and really like it. I had a 2013 Silverado 5.3 when I bought it and it pulled it it just fine. It got about 9 to 10 mpg when towing. I would not want to tow anything too much bigger however. The trailer itself had a few bugs to start out. Toilet was not seated correctly, water pump was mounted on 1/8" veneer and had to be relocated. We are planning to move up to a fifth wheel next year so I just bought a Dodge Ram 2500 diesel. The truck doesn't even feel this little trailer now and I am getting about 14 mpg towing. The only other thing is the water tank outlet is about 1 1/2" from bottom of tank so last 6 gallons of water is not pump able. I plan on tapping into the bottom drain fitting so that I can get all the water in the tank. Since this trailer is 4 years old hopefully all of Forest Rivers lousy quality control issues have already been addressed. Also make sure you pull the the wheels and check brakes and bearings before you buy.
I'm not familiar with this trailer, but anyway that you can rent it for a week-end with option to buy after? Rent would go against purchase price if you buy.
