surveyor sp295 outdoor kitchen door

I've got a 2012 model and have been out a total of around 30 days total..my aluminum hinge is cracked and the door pops when opening...crack is about 2 inches long. The dealer is ordering the parts to warranty repair it...entire door and frame assembly. My question is has anyone else had this problem? Wondering if this is a fluke or a problem area since it looks like a lot of door weight on the hinge with where the hinge and pnuematic struts placement is? Thanks.

It's a 2012 model. We picked it up on 5/21/11. We camped 61 days this year and haven't seen any stress, etc. on the door and/or hinges, etc. And we open/close it multiple times a day...whenever we're not at our campsite.

I also have a 2011 Surveyor 295 with the outdoor kitchen. My door looks like it was not centered in the opening, more to the front of the trailer than the rear. The screws came loose on the door, and scratched the frame. If there are issues in the future, I may see about removing it and moving it back a little bit, but if there are no water (rain) leaks then no worries!!!!

Mine is alittle more towards the front also...maybe there is some reason for that? The crack I'm talking about is in the upper left corner and you can see it when the door is open from the outside or inside. It pops from the torque now when you open it which is how I noticed it. Now the door sags abit on the left when open because of the weight stress. I suggest that anyone with the outdoor kitchen keep a watchful eye for cracks in the hinge.

We have the 2012 SP295 and have not noticed any cracking with the hinge. I will certainly pay close attention to it now though. We have had a problem with the outside kitchen door sliding forward a little once it is open. Sometimes when we go to close it, it will rub on the side and need to be opened up again and shifted (manually, by me pushing on it) towards the back of the camper a little to be able to close it all the way.

We have a pretty new SP240 (took delivery in Sept.). After a 3,000 mile trip to PA and back (from MN) we have had no problems with structure, doors, etc. Fresh water has leaks on the outside kitchen sink. Trailer is in for winterizing now and they will fix it (excellent dealer!!). We have logged eight nights in the trailer just this fall. All systems (with the minor exception of the outside kitchen sink) are go! Great machine.

We have a 2012 SP-295 as well. We've camped about 12 nights in it (we only got it in mid-August). No problems with the outdoor kitchen door so far.

Actually, the only issue I have noticed is that one of the latches on the outdoor kitchen door doesn't turn the whole way (the side closest to the front of the trailer.) The one at the rear of the trailer goes a full 90 degrees, while the other only goes about 75 degrees. It still latches but it is a little annoying.

I did learn to put a child-lock on the outdoor fridge's door after our first trip. I opened the door to the kitchen and all my beer fell to the ground. Not nice.

Yes, ours has as well. Just noticed it before we left for Florida. Also have noticed that it is not centered, and is closer to the front of the trailer side than the rear side. Have you had yours replaced yet, any advice that you could give me when I take mine in for repairs. I have a few other troubles as well.

Do you use those "Regrigerator Bars" from Camco? I used the double bar piece and it help to keep stuff from moving towards the door. Also the "Fridgebrace" is great for larger and heavier items like gallon of milk.

We have a 2011 Salem and have not had any issues with the hinge on the outside kitchen door, and our door seems to be centered in the opening.I was a bit concerned at first with the weight of the door and the high pressure of the struts, but so far no issues.

We just use the cheapo spring type curtain rods from wal mart. When those go to heck we'll get some more for $2. They work great.

Just got home from Olathe Ford RV. Long day...4 hour drive each way just to have them replace the door, frame and hinge. They did a great job and got us out in about 2 hours. Looks good and works good...I just hope it doesn't crack again. Time will tell. I'll keep you posted if there is a problem through the camping season. Happy trails to all as the season we all live for is just around the corner!

Did they change anything in the setup to make sure it doesn't happen again, or is their no noticeable difference? Did you ask if they knew exactly why this happened in the first place? I am not trying to grill you, its just mine has the exact same problem so any information would be very helpful.

It doesn't really look too different that I can tell. They put a new frame, door, hinge, and decals. I asked if FR would extend my warranty since it will run out before the camping season really begins( MAY) and he said no but they knew that they had a problem and should I have it again they would take care of me since I was on record. It may be a different hinge I can't really tell...so time will tell..good luck with yours and I will check in thru out the season especially if it looks like a re-occurance of the problem.

Thank you for responding so fast, I will be getting mine done probably over march break in anticipation of the camping season soon. I will definitely make sure that they replace the door and hinge, and frame. Perhaps they can reinforce the frame too. Good luck the rest of the way, hopefully you don't have any other problems.

I've decided to reinforce my hinge on both ends by adding jb weld to the inside of the L channel. Once I looked closer it does not appear that they made any changes to their setup or design, materials of the hinge. Still the same looking aluminum channel. So I plan to add filler with the jb weld to strengthen it so it doesn't have the chance to tear again at the ends due to the stress from the gas cylinders and weight of the door. Not sure this makes sense but if you've had the problem you might understand the preventive fix. If I still have a pic of the split hinge before it was replaced I'll try to post it.
