Thanks shinysideup for the test tow idea. My DW also wants to make sure that I will be able to get a 30' trailer behind the barn as she doesn't like any equipment visible from the street. It may come down to that!

Modguy If you could do it all over again what would you buy?

The king slide issues are a little scary!

Well,
What we have is the largest I can tow with my current vehicle, which was one of the deciding factors when we purchased it (The queen slide is a bit shorter and lighter than the current king version). I am not a fan of having the kitchen in the slide out, seems the storage is not that great. If I was looking with a regular 1/2 ton tow vehicle, I like the looks of the Rockwood 2501SS. Good size bathroom, shorter length, flexable layout.

When I can change to a 3/4 truck, we are going to go to something like the
Rockwood 8286WS 5ht Wheel.

If your gut is saying the 291, then I would go that way.

Good point on the bed length! FOr the very few times we camp when it is real cold, we have a heated matress pad. I also put Reflextex insulation in the bed window to help with the temp. in cold weather, we will get some condensation in the corners of the slide out walls at night. I always make sure to give it a good dry wipe in the mornings.

Thank you for all the thoughts. I am working with a dealer on the 291 and if we can get the price right the order is going in!
I decided on the 291 for the following reasons (not in any order):

- more storage space without modifications
- also has large bunks
- floor space width due to slide out
- loaded weight is reasonable
- no bed slide and room around master bed

Can't wait to get the deal done and hope to get in a fall trip if we don't have another October snow storm!

If you are going to order it, bargin HARD! The dealer will have a solid sale and not a trailer sitting on his lot costing him $$$. Ordered ours and got 7K off what the dealer was asking for, which put the price in the range of what I thought the unit was worth. I also found out when ordering that there are options available that may not be listed in the brochure, so be sure to ask. We ordered ours with a wood look vinyl floor, which was an option (no charge)that was not advertised.

Good Luck and Happy Camping!
