Taking bicycles on or in a Surveyor

We are looking into start taking our bikes with us when we go camping. How and where do you transport and store bikes in a Surveyor?

We put our two bikes beside the front bed attached with a short bungie cord to the bed side (just under the lift up). We lean the bikes against the bed with the front tire against the lower front wall. No tire or grease marks in the past 8 years.

My Surveyor is only 18.5 feet long so our 2 bikes go in the box of our F150. I remove the front tire and 1 pedal on each bike and stack them in the box. They fit nicely, I keep the one wrench I need with my blocks. After much practice I can assemble or disassemble both bikes in 5 minutes easy. My trailer bumper is nowhere near strong enough for a bumper mounted bike rack.

Have you considered a front receiver hitch from e trailer. Don't install on bumper of trailer until you do your homework..very controversial subject.

No more bumper bike carrying !

Way to much bounce at the back of a 35' trailer.
Almost lost the whole 2 bike rack + bikes once because a pin for fold up storage broke due to bounce.
No more...I keep the expensive bike in the trailer while travelling now.

Look up Bodiak. They have a hitch that bolts onto the front tow hooks of your truck. I think it's rated for 500 lbs. It only takes a few minutes to bolt on. We then purchased a Swagman RV 2 bike carrier. We carry our bikes on the front of our F250. Easy to take on and off and you don't have to worry about all the bounce in the back. We went from NJ to Fl. and back with no problems at all. Also took them all camping season and had no problems,

Yes, I am well aware of the bumper bike mounts are a no go, thanks to this site. Right know we are just looking for idea that are easy to do for three bikes. I have thought about mounting something to the top of my hard tonneau cover. Again I haven't decided on anything, but I may have to try the beside the bed trick to see how that will work for us. Sounds easy and rather painless.

I installed a front receiver on my f-150 and love it. Bought a Curt receiver and bike rack on Amazon. They have install videos on sight. I can keep an eye on the bikes as I am driving. Wife would not put dirty trail bikes in the new trailer.

We have a SV235RKS so we have the whole fold-up bunk area in the front of the trailer for bikes, telescope, whatever. Not sure what the layout of a 294 is but a fold-up bunk area works great.

I have a 21' Mini Lite. I know I can't put a bike rack and 2 bikes on the bike bumper. I don't want to carry 2 bikes inside my smaller TT. I don't have a pick up truck bed. My solution was the Bike Bunk from Camping World. I had to modify the cross bar by cutting 2 inches out of the cross bar on each side of the receiver and then welding back together. This shortened the cross bar which allowed me to keep the cross bar closer to the front of my TT. This gave me enough space behind my Durango so that I could carry 2 bikes. The mfg. should make that cross bar adjustable.

Very well made product. It comes with enough bolts to rebuild the Titanic. It carries the bikes above the propane tanks so somewhat of a chore to get the bikes up and down off the rack. But it works. The best solution I could find so far.

But can you really open the front bunk on a Roo with the rack installed. My bunk open has only 2"" of clearance, if that, from my propane covers. Doing my research now, and would be happy putting 2 of my 4 bikes on a rack. So much extra set up and break down as it is.

Summer2go, I don't have a front slide out so the rack and the bikes can stay in place as long as I want them to. I don't think the rack that I have would work for you. You could send the company, Arvika, a note to see if they have something that would.

Ladder Bike Rack
Attached Surco ( 75 pound cap.) bike rack to ladder on back of camper and loaded 2 coaster bikes to rack. Haven't been on road since I installed but it seems like it will work. Secured bikes to ladder with racket straps as safety measure and to reduce amount of weight on rack. Used bungee cords to keep bikes from bouncing around. Had to mount rack higher on ladder than I wanted to keep tail light on camper clear.


Caution: some bike ladder racks only have weight capacity of 50 lbs. Surco has largest capacity.

Beware of ladder rack bike carriers; we install one and ladder starting coming loose from camper. We removed bike carrier and tighten screws holding ladder to camper. Good thing we tried first on short trip.
