Walking on SV264 roof
My wife is wanting me to install some MaxAir vents on our 2012 Surveyor SV264. I am 6'4" and pushing 240lbs and the thought of walking on the roof concerns me. I do have a ladder on the back of the TT that is rated for 300lbs but I was thinking about getting a piece of plywood and just using my 8' ladder and getting on the roof that way. I figured that if I stayed on the plywood, it would distribute my weight. I just don't want to damage anything. Is this doable or should I pay some skinny person to do the work.

Go ahead climb on the roof and do the MaxAir installation, I just got on my roof this weekend and tried unsuccessfully to install the vent cover, (got the regular MaxAir and I have the fantastic fan on my rv, I need the maxair 2). I'm 250#'s and did not have any problems walking on the roof. Also my two boys 14 and 12 join me up there. LOL

You can certainly use the plywood if you want and plenty of people do but I always have been comfortable walking on the roof of our trailers. I weigh a bit less but other posts in the various "walk on roof" threads I've read around here also state its fine.
I wouldn't hire anyone. Besides, how else are you going to get up there to maintain the roof and inspect the seals every few months?

I'm at 240#s and get on my SV-264 regularly... no problem.

I'm bigger than both of you and other than an issue with heights, I don't have any issue being up on my roof.

One of the reasons I bought the SV264 is because of the Full Walk On Roof and it came with the ladder.

I'm 215 and I like to walk cautiously on it, finding out there is a weak spot would not be very pleasant.

Just make sure there are no rocks in your shoes when you go up there as the roof membrane is soft and easily cut. I pulled the ladder out of the trailer back wall the only time I have used it and I weigh 230. The dealership screwed it back in and sealed it but I have lost faith in trying it again. I have climbed up many grain bins using the the old rotten wooden ladders attached to the side so I know how to go up a ladder slowly and carefully and not just bounce up the rungs, and it still pulled out of the trailer. I now use my aluminum ladder to gain access to the roof.

Well, I got the max air vents installed today. I did not like being on the roof. Several times is creaked and cracked and was a little spongy when I was between the trusses. When I was working, I was sitting on a piece of plywood which made the roof feel more solid beneath me. At least I was able to inspect all the caulking. I used the ladder that is attached to the back of the trailer and it felt pretty solid. I hopefully won't need to get up there again for a long time.

What's a max air vent? We just bought a 2013 SV304. Are they something that you should have?
