Winterizing dilema - Anode

I have fully winterized my SP295 last weekend, and all went as expected, except for the fact that I couldn't get the ANODE out of the water heater !!!. I am an ex-football player 260lbs and all my might, couldn't budge the damm thing.

Any fears or concerns to leave it in ???

If you leave it now, you will definitely never get it out.
And of course, your tank will freeze and ruin the heater.
Try an impact gun on it. You've got nothing to lose.
And when you reinstall it, put teflon tape on the threads before you screw it in. That way it doesn't have to be tightened so much to seal.

Ya I was thinking of renting a impact drill, (don't got one)....and I didn't want to leave it as living in Canada, we'll be getting low temps soon....

I was thinking more along the lines of an air impact gun. I doubt an electric "drill" would do it. But there are some pretty good rechargable electric impact guns on the market, that seem to have as much punch as a 1/2 inch air gun.
Turbo's suggestion of a breaker bar might work, but I would think the impact gun would put less stress on the tank.
Teflon tape is the key, plus regularly removing the rod.

I do have a compressor that I used to blow out the lines, just didn't have the impact gun that will need to fit the 1 1/16th ANODE rod. Again, thanks for the input...

Some folks will disagree with me but this is why I remove the rod to drain it after every trip.

1/2" breaker bar, 1-1/16" socket and a dead blow hammer. One sharp rap with the hammer should do the trick.

A few tools to have on hand when removing and replacing a A-rod. 1/2 drive Hi-Torque air or elect. impact gun,3/4 NPT tap,6 inch long 1/2 drive ext,square drive socket to fit the pipe tap,1/2 drive tee handle to turn the tap, used tooth brush,and shop vac to clean up during and after the thread cleanup. Youroo!!

My lug wrench fits the anode rod. Gives good leverage and no need for any other special equipment.
