Water filter

2005 Grand Surveyor GS291 TT. No element in water filter canister. Is there a "generic" element that can be bought at a big box store with will work? Thanks, David

yes ! most all filters fit the housings they install .
i pick mine up at the hardware store on sale all the time.
menards ,wal mart , home depot they all have them !
I always get the smallest micron i can so they filter better . since its a 2 minute install i don't mind changing if it gets plugged .
normal whole house filter should all ways work .

I have to disagree on getting the smallest micro you can.
Many here have posted that they clog up too fast.
I just get a filter that says "for sediment and odor".
They have activated charcoal and work great for us.
They usually come in a 2 pack and run around $10 - $12.
As mentioned you can get them a lots of stores that have
a plumbing dept.

Good luck!

I just looked and a standard carbon filter that you possibly use is 5 micron rated for 250 gallons or 3 months.

The one I use is. 0.5 microns rated at 500 gallons and 6 months
So I disagree with your disagreement

What ever works!

I go for the activated charcoal models because they do a pretty good
job of removing chlorine taste and smell.
My last pack from Lowes said 2 microns.

Lowes.com
Whirlpool 2-Pack Whole House Water Replacement Filter
Item #: 149010 | Model #:149010
$11.58
2 pack.

We use one under our kitchen sink on the cold water line at home
and the same thing on my hose inlet on my trailer.
Typically both get changed once a year.
I've never had a problem with low pressure thru the filter but maybe just
haven't run into dirty water.
We change the one under our kitchen sink when we notice the chlorine
taste coming back. We fill our water bottles and make coffee from
that faucet.
The one in the trailer get's replaced each spring whether
it needs it or not!

and actually when I said I use the fine micron rating filter I to have never had a low flow issue . I change it once a year with no problems .
0.5 is pretty small but as I said its rated for aprox. 500 gallons and I dont believe I come close to using 500 gallons in a year ?

Ratings (approx. gallons) can be very over-rated. The life of the filter all depends on the source of the water going through it. Some well pumps pick up plenty of silt while others don't. It depends on the location. All boils down to one thing, Keep an Eye on your Filter canister if you go someplace new. It may get dirty real quick or it may not. Check it before you hook up and when you disconnect. The filters at the Home stores or Walmart for that matter will work in any 10" Canister.

Send a message via AIM to jk31668
and needless to say, always run the water thru your hose for a few minutes before connecting to your rig to clean out the huse and the c/g line.

Thanks to all, and to you "KyDan", those numbers worked perfectly at the local Lowe's store. I now have an element in the filter canister with a spare in the cupboard. Thanks again, David
