2018 Cherokee Hitch Chassis/Frame damage

Hello Fellow Campers and Haulers - I have a 2018 Forest River Grey Wolf 23DBH. Tow vehicle is a 2002 Ford F150 Lariat SuperCrew 4x4.

I recently discovered a tear in the metal right on the hitch where it meets the chassis. I've owned the unit 2 years and only around 1,600 km's (994 miles) on it.

Trying to rack my brain on how this has occurred??? You can see by the pics the metal piece below the tear has almost done a concave like buckle compared to the twin side.

Has anyone seen anything like this? Any suggestions on how this might have happen or WTF happened?!?!

Thanks!
David M.

I am guessing a jackknife turn caused the damage.
A welder/blacksmith/fabriccator should be able to fix that.

Has your tt ever been left at a dealer or repair facility for anything? If you bought it new and haven't done a jack knife to damage it yourself, the very 'narrow' area of damage below the tear looks as if someone may have tried to move it with a forklift. Just a guess though ~~

Find a welder/fabricator to straighten the tear and 'fish plate' for a repair. Camp on ~

This is most likely IMOP. I would have a welder fix that with a plate and while there have them pull the duplicate chains off that single point of failure they are attached to and put them on the plate they weld on...

my chains ripped off on a tight turn at a gas station when they got caught on the excess hitch drop...that is less likely but also possible to have caused damage...just trying to figure out if a pull could have done that or just a push from a jackknife or forklift.

From the look of where the metal is folded in and torn on the drivers side, I'm thinking jackknife all the way.

Jackknife 3, Other 2. Jackknife wins. Pretty sure I would have noticed this since taking it off the dealers lot, most likely it was self-imposed. Doesn't look like a stress tear but a slow hard push from a tight (jackknife) turn totally makes sense. Thanks everyone. Solid analysis.
