26rr tire question

I have castle rock st205/75/14 tires that came on my 2016 26rr TH. I am looking at taking a 2000 mile trip in June. Am I OK with the factory tires or should I invest in something better? Any recommendations for a better tire? Thanks

I'm not against buying new rims too if I have to upgrade the size. Just want to do it right the first time, and have no idea where to order and what to order for this. Any help would be greatly appreciated

The tires on the now are c rated at only 1760lbs each giving me only 7000 lbs capacity. The TH is rated for 7800lbs so I'd like to go to a D rated tire

I would go with 225/75R15 ten ply (E-load) Maxxis 8008. They are rated at 2,800 pounds. And, stiffer sidewalks will increase stability.

The E tire is two inches larger diameter but someone else will have to report if they'll fit the 26rr.

I just finished 6000+ miles loaded at 6500 with stock tires no problem. That being said at the first sign of a problem I will go to ST215/75R14 Load D at 2200 lbs. Google it. Several brands available

Do we have the clearance to fit a 215/75/14?

Also, everything I read about trailer tires, I can't seem to find a single brand that hasn't had people with blow out issues. Is this a tire pressure/overload problem or just no one makes a quality trailer tire?

I removed the China Bombs after 4k miles and replaced them with Maxxis 8008's. The trailer pulls better as it's much more stable due to the stiffer sidewalls. Also, I can't put a price on "piece of mind" so the $$ I spent was/is well worth the results I'm getting.

Did you stick with same size and c load rating?

Yes, same size but went with D rated tires. If I had it to do again, I'd probably go to the E rated tires but I'm well within the load rating of the D's.

Hmm. I could only find the maxxis 8008s c rated in the same size. To go with d rating it looked like I needed to go to a different size. Where did you find them?

Also how did you go about changing the rims and tires? Jack it up and take 2 off at a time and bring to store to mount and balance?

I think I'm going to upgrade to a 15" rim. It appears to have plenty of clearance just eyeballing it. Is there any harm in shortening the distance of space between the two tires?

I am about to pull the trigger on a set of maxxis 8008s in 225/75/15 e rated with a new set of aluminum rims. I sure hope they fit!

You should be able to get the dimensions needed to know they'll fit before buying .

Lots of talk about cheap china bomb tires . I have found over the winter working at a C/W in Ft Meyers that 80% of them units dropped off had low air pressure . main cause of issues . Also another thing to look at that many forget is the valve stem . had a friend following me the other day with our units in tow . he started loosing air turns out it was the cheap china valve stems . Glad i had steel stems installed when i put on my e rated tires . my guess would be that 1/2the blow outs can be blamed on bad valve stems

They are 2.2" bigger diameter overall. Currently I have about 7" between tires and about 2.5-3" clearance to the fender. So it should only drop fender clearance to about 1.5" I'm hoping that's enough

There are a lot of European commercial truck tires at USA tire retailers nation wide. The most popular 14" is probably the Kumho 857. It comes in size 205R14C (the C identifies it as commercial). It's only load capacity is LRD rated at 2271# at 65 psi.

Maxxis also makes that tire size in its Bravo series of commercial truck tires. It's specs and load capacities are the same.

There are also numerous other "off shore" tire manufacturers with that tire size and load capacity. They have names like Nankang and Power King, etc...

So you will lose 1.1" of clearance. looks like they will work
