My husband is a Commercial Carrier Inspector for 3 counties in the state of PA. You DON'T have to pull over into weight stations or in any commercial checkpoint unless you're actually being beconed to pull in. Just pass them by unless you're hauling something commercially (for pay or for a job)

I guess it would depend on how you define "large", I do not consider my 30 footer large.

I’ve never stopped at a state scale and it’s never been an issue. The last thing I would want to do is get in a line of trucks at a scale. Time is money for truckers and I sure as heck wouldn’t want to run the chance of ticking off an independent trucker who might perceive me as causing him an extra delay.

Email 'em. That's what I did in Maryland and got the story straight from the horse's mouth.

Anyone who says you are not required to stop (as it pertains to MD, at least) is *technically* wrong. In reality/practice, they're right and no one will bat an eye if you drive on by; but it's not what the actual law says.

Just to add to the confusion, my Ram 1500 is registered in NY with commercial plates. Can't get passenger plates on any vehicle over 5500 pounds empty. I've never stopped at a weigh station even when I was towing a 43 foot 5th wheel with a Ram 3500 dually.
