I've been following the ambulance builds on ExpeditionPortal.com. The Medium Duty ambos (either Freightliner or International) have a 14ft box but plenty of weight capacity. The box can become an RV with some changes, can carry the bike if needed, can tow an RV if a hitch and brake circuitry is added, and has LOTS of storage to carry tools, and all the stuff that won't fit in the 26RR. Can't afford the Volvo truck so this is my next best.
Used ones are affordable also. I have a year of dreaming to go yet.

Got some cabinets made. Here they are test fitted, will stain them and install this week.

Very nice work. I have found a mix of dark oak and Kona comes close to the color of stain on original cabinets. That's if you have not experimented yet? What type of wood did you use?

It is pine...wanted something that was light weight. I used a tint called Jacobean....slightly darker than a dark walnut. I tested it on a kick panel and it looked too light, but when I stained it, the Jacobson looked too dark. Once I added a urethane coating, it lightened it up just enough. You can tell there is a difference, but most of it comes from grain.

Did you tear out the old boards over wheel well and build new. I made mistake on mine first time and built over it. First trip I found all cabinets tipped over. The staples they use do not hold. Between rebuilding base and screwing to floor and hitting studs in wall with screws it has not moved.

Your cabinets do look great. It would be cool if all of us that have done extensive modifications could meet up sometime so we could see them first hand.

I think the time to do that would be the FROG Rally in Elkhart. That would draw the most FR people. I got to see some rigs and how they tied their toys in two years ago.

Installed backsplash behind stove and sink. Gives it a little more class.

The end cabinets will be anchored to wall studs, and the chest will be screwed to the ends. The whole shebang is about 1" wider than the wheel well, and I covered it up with a kick panel.

Here are some pics of the almost finished project...I say almost because I still have to anchor/screw everything together, mount some hardware, and drill some holes for power cords. The pics aren't great, but the camper doesn't have the best lighting.....

Added pulls to my cabinets. The push to open and close did not stay closed during travel. So added pulls and latches.

Lowes. $6.39 each. Make sure you get the brushed ones so they will match. I am sure Home Depot has them to or your other big box store. Made a template to make holes. Came out straighter than the manufacturer did on the install. 👍

Busy trailer day today. Made a slide silverware tray for the deep drawer. Got the wooden tray from big lots and made slide channel.




Made spice rack and trimmed tile backsplash. Stain drying will post when complete and installed.
