Really nice. How does the cabinet travel? Does it stay in place of did you attach it somehow?

They are five individual cubes. I screwed them to each other. Took the nasty carpet off with the million staples leveled cabinet and screwed them into the 1/2 inch osb that was exposed when removing carpet over wheel well. Used screws just enough to grab osb but not go all the way through.

How about a lead on the cube manufacture or where you purchased.

IKEA, you have to put them together but easy, and the grain and the color work well with existing stained cabinets.

Rmac04401,

I'm a fairly basic rudimentary woodworker as my previous posts will show. However I have been thinking of tackling the under the bed storage for a while and at Menards came across a very inexpensive system ($14.99 per unit) that I can afford for now. But I would like to know how you did the facia board work and whether you surrounded the drawer unit with a frame of some sort. It looks like you didn't cut a rectangular hole out of the facia board to slot the drawers in but rather took the board right off and cut it up into strips to instal around the drawers.

Also I wondered about the frame of the bed. Did you replace the top part of the frame and strengthen it to make such a long gap between uprights? Is the drawer unit supporting the bed in any way?

Anything you can tell me would help.

Sorry for all these questions but as I said I am not real good at this.

I pulled the luan off carefully to use it later. Hammerd out the center upright and took out the staples. Then for some reason basically laziness they only had one half of top strengthend by a second board. I took out this second board and staples. Now that left bottom board, top board, and the side upright boards. I set the drawers in on top of bottom bored and shimmed back to make level. I then measured the space between the top board and the top of drawers. The ripped down a 2x4 for that space. Squeezed that price in then measured space between sides and drawers and distance between bottom board and new top section and ripped 2x4 for that. Then screwed them all together. I set the drawers an eighth or 1/4 inch forward of the frame to prevent having to use trim pieces. Of course I forgot remove the top plastic so you don't damage so you can put back on once you cut luan pieces. I cut the luan on a table saw did the distance of sides from top to bottom and right up to drawer over hang. Then measured between the two side and cut those. This puts your seams under the drawers and above making them less noticeable. Used small finish nails to tack on luan and used liquid nails on bottom and used punch because hammer will not totally sink bottom nails due to only a 1/2 inch space. Then you put two screws in bottom of drawer board to secure it.

I hope this is understandable. Sorry took me so long to respond. We were driving to Ocean City today for bike week. Maiden trip with bike. Things went awesome. I see what you mention by the equalizer wdh pinching chains. Next project. Forrest river should read some of these threads to build a better trailer. Good luck with the drawer mods.

Those should do we'll. we looked at a Layton and they had cubbies under bed with baskets. You could almost make a shelf in the middle and use 4 small baskets

Thanks for the instructions. They will help me a lot.
As for the chains - let the dealer and the factory know so they can hear another complaint and also they should fix it under warranty.
Have a great trip and thank you again.

Pimp my 26rr

My bed base mod (with thanks to rmac04401) using some storage boxes on special at Menards. They take a large cloth covered box insert. I made the box up, laid it against the inside of the luan and marked around the box with a pencil. Despite what I intended when I started the process of cutting I ended up just using a sharp strong knife to cut the luan. A straight piece of wood helped to join the small holes drilled at the corners of the lines. I also strengthened the top rail with extra wood screwed together.

I screwed a piece of wood (matching the size of the bed base bottom piece) to the floor at the back end of the box but did not screw the box to it. I screwed the box to the bed base bottom and the side strut at the front end. These seemed sufficient to hold the box steady. As some of my work was not perfect, I laid a bead of silicone to hide small imperfections along the cuts on the top and rear side where the cuts can be seen. I squeezed a piece of carpet between the top of each box and the bed base rail to protect the top of the box as much as possible. I also laid a piece of carpet between the boxes on the floor for protection and some sound reduction.

The outside mat and the two large outside chair frames slide in the left hand end of the storage; the Walmart table lies on the bottom of the space between the two boxes; a steel folding chair next; and then the 2 chair covers on top of that. The second steel chair lies across the space on the top straddling the space between the 2 boxes. In the space between the boxes and the end of the bed I put a clothes holder thingo which is in 2 pieces; a bed set for a twin bed; and the picnic tablecloth and holders. These are all things you get out once when you arrive and put back just before you leave, but probably not access for 1 night stays.

The arms of my former bed holder uppers were reduced but now open and slide along the boxes and when they are about 4 inches from the near end, I let the bed rest on them. When I lift the bed I push them to the front of the trailer a bit and then they slide along the carpet and fold against the bed top. Low tech low cost but they work great.

Hope the pix help any wanting to try my low cost, low tech bed storage system. Total cost: 2 boxes at $15 each after Menards rebate; 2 storage inserts at $6 each; bits of wood, carpet and silicone all of which I had already.

Nice job Riderbloke. It makes it a lot better to have access for storage from the sides. I just installed hydraulic shocks on bed last night before I put on new mattress. Also the extra USEABLE space between the cabinets is a great plus

Newest modification to my 26rr. Did not like the way benches were arranged. Will eventually have all new cushions made. Click image for larger version

We do not need that big extra bed for just two of us. We have blow up queen if we have company a twin extra is good for us. Opens up the floor plan more and now can watch tv head on.

here you go ,the cabinet on the wheelwell i made out off wood laying around, the gas struts work really well , i added these on every overhead door , dont know why they dont have these factory installed. the closets have hanging storage . roll your clothes up and slide them in the bins and you can stay for at least a week on what you keep there.on the good side the back side of the storage has pockets for shoes and jewelry.the last photo is the rigging i had to come up with to load my bike because the ramp angle was to steep. easy enough fix

Where did you get your ramps and adjustable jacks for the rear door? My bike just barely clears but that all depends on slope of ground

Don't you love it that the license plate hangs over the edge? I just drilled two more holes in plate so it would line up with space.
