Reserving camp sites for toy haulers

This might be a silly question. I tried to search for an answer on the forums, and couldn't find one, so I apologize if something similar has already been posted.

When reserving a camp site for your toy hauler, what length site do you look to reserve? For example, trailer is 30 feet long, with an 8 foot rear door; do you list your length as 30 feet, or 38 feet when making a reservation? I'm a new owner of a toy hauler, and I am confused about this. I assume if I reserve the 30 foot site, I wouldn't be able to open the cargo door, so I should reserve the longer site, yes?

not really . I always state my actual length and mention i have a TH with a motorcycle i carry with . Some sites will be long enough to allow use of the ramp while camped , some I need to unload before setting up . So if you want to use your ramp door while camped just chat with the manager before choosing a spot or reserving one to suit your needs .
some rv parks do have length limits ,

Also depends if you are using the ramp door as a patio...........





Prefer pull thru's when using the ramp as a ramp...........

Some state parks show what is max vehicle length for the site. Some also state the full length of driveway. I use my length of trailer. I use 30 ft. My trailer is actually 30'8" but I use 30'. Most pull through will allow you to put back down to get bike out.

Like northstar1960 I talk to the management about having the trike and the need to get it out of and back into the hauler. Most of the time they put me in a spot that makes this easier for me.
Place I stay every year for Sturgis I unload prior to pulling into my assigned space.

Most State C/G have a "Talk to No one" Reservation system! They give a ?? measurement,and Most dont want you to Park your TV off the "Hard surface" Good luck with that! They do have "Overflow Parking" a half mile away for your TV though! Call the Park and talk to a "Real Person" will be a person in the Camp Store who knows "Nothing about the Site layouts" except what the Internet Info says! If you have Not actually Visited and "Charted" the Sites you could Really "Maneuver into and Open your slides" it will be a "Crap Shoot"! Youroo!!

I've never had issues with the TH , with unloading bike or with parking . I'm not sure what you mean by "most" state camp grounds have a talk to know one . I seem to get people on the phone all the time with very good details on sites and which one suits me the best .

I always tell them we have a longer trailer than we actually do. Ours is 30 feet but tell them we have a 35 foot trailer.

Our XLR is about 42' long by itself. Add an 8' door and 4 door cab on the TV and we would need about 60'+. We usually unload the bikes before pulling into spot. Disconnect TV and find someplace for it to go. Then relax. When we went to the KOA on the Quiet Side of the Smokeys (darn old age, can't remember the town name) I told them how long the camper was and they didn't believe me. Until we pulled in. Or was that in Branson? Anyway, doesn't matter where. I would have liked to have a back deck, but then I don't think we would find very many places to be able to use it.

We also unload our motorcycles before we set up camp. I try to find a wide spot in the road or a parking lot to do the unloading and loading. After many trips, we can get in done in less than 5 minutes. Our toy hauler has a pull down screen for the back but we almost never use it. The ramp down requires a very long site ( for truck, trailer, and door 60') and if it rains or gets cold during the night you have to go outside to close the door. We prefer finding a more private or secluded site so unloading first makes it easier.

I have not run into problems yet getting bike in and out. I usually unload and load on campground road and then back in. Most of the spot have had room for me to open back door to get air through screen.
