Tow vehicle for grey wolf rr-19

I have a 2006 chevy 1500 with a 4.8 l motor but you can tell it's hard on the vehicle. Can anyone help me I know I need a big truck but what kind and size I plan to go to the smokey mountain this year

Any big engine, low final drive ratio (high numeric value) 1/2 ton truck with a 9000+ lb. tow rating should pull that camper OK. For peace of mind, and future camper upgrades, a 3/4 ton truck with a long wheelbase, big engine and low final drive ratio would be an option, also.

I tow a Work and Play 18LT, with a F150 Ford supercrew with a 5.4. No I don't recommend it. My trailer is 7000 pounds loaded, and it's all the truck wants, although I have had it it the Smoky Mountains. If you must drive the truck for other use, I am looking at the F250 with the 6.2 V8 engine. I can't justify the cost or upkeep of a diesel, as I don't tow that much. Sorry if you are a Chevy man, they make good trucks also, but I would look at a V8 engine, in the 6 liter range, with tow package, and 3.73 gearing.

any of the newer v-8 1/2 ton trucks will be good.
the Chevy/GMC trucks have the 5.3 v-8 that has the v-4 feature, which will get you highway mpg of 20 or better.
the Dodge Hemis have the same feature.

the new Ford trucks can get similar mpg. the new Ecoboost v-6 is the hottest thing in trucks, right now.

get one with a factory tow package and you'll be fine.

I'm towing our 19rr with a 2008 F-250 Extended cab with the 6.4 PS Diesel and I'm here to tell you it tows that trailer like it wasn't even there. We load the bike (2002 Electra Glide Classic) and all our gear and it pulls like a dream.
As for upgrades, I have not taken the DPF off the truck (yet) and am running the Banks Ottomind Sport Tune with the Banks Ram Air intake. Towing we get between 10-11 mpg running a little under 70 mph, at 1800 rpm on the interstate.

Not towing, during regular weekly usage, we average between 14-15 mpg with the truck. Hope that helps those considering tow vehicles.

Almost all of the large V8's will do the job; YES, a diesel 250 or 2500 would do it better, but with an additional cost increase of around 10k as well as higher fuel and maintenance costs. Since you are only pulling a 19 foot camper, a 1700 series truck should be just fine, BUT pay strict attention to the tire size, and rear end gearing. You will be much happier towing with a high 3's gear- such as a 3:92 0r even a 4:10 with 18" tires. Those 20's look good, but are not usually very practical for towing. Good luck, Randy

I am towing a wolf pack 27 wp with an 2010 Ford F-150 Raptor with the 6.2. I have 2 quads & 2 bikes in it & have towed it thru Virginia & upstate NY thru the Adirondacks, approx 2k miles & it tows like a champ. Mileage empty at 65 mph is 16 avg. & about 10 mpg loaded. It's a great combo, a fun truck, fun camper, & fun toys, I love it. Just keep in mind if you get a 150 series go for the bigger motor, or try the eco boost, I have heard it tows real well & the mpg's look pretty good.

we have a 2006 nissan armada with 5.6liter v8 (the suv version of the nissan titan) with the heavy duty towing packages and it tows our Greywolf 19rr in the rocky mountains fine we just made sure we had a good WDH & sway control. gas mileage while towing is about 12mpg and our SUV has 9,000 lbs tow rating.
