Well water or city?
What do you guys suggest for freshwater tank? I have well with a softener system, wondering if down the road it could cause any issues? I'm thinking no since it'll be emptied and filled a lot with different water sources any ways.

If thats what you normally drink at home with no ill effects I see no reason not to use it in your rig. The soft water is probably easier on the system then hard city water.

Our well water is better than any city water too, but, city water stays "fresher" in a storage system because of the (dreaded) chemicals.I get called out a lot for hauling 90 gal of fresh water around but the truth is that,at least in our TH,the wieght of the water alters the pin wieght and the unit tows better with a full water tank. Now if the garage bay were empty, the water would give me too much on the pin,so I would leave the water at home, but it never is.I also add 1 tbs of bleach to the fill to avoid haveing anything start to grow in the untreated well water.

If drinking your own water, fine. But don't trust anyone else's well water.
Drink bottled water.

With the softener this might not be an issue but the minerals in well water will react to the aluminum of the hot water heater tank. I is okay for a short time but do not leave well water in the hot water tank for very long. I did one time for two weeks and the water turned blackish and smelled like rotten eggs. Took some time and a lot of water to flush it.

I've used my own well water for 40 years in our R/V's with no problems, but then, I also know what my own well water consists of.

If it doesn't go through a good filter like reverse osmosis, you could end up with a lot of iron which puts an orange stain on just about anything. The calcium in water from a lot of wells can clog shower heads, faucets and other fittings by long-term build-up. City water would be my preference. But, you'll find many campers use bottled water for drinking and cooking. We carry two 3 gallon clear plastic jugs. It costs 40-50 cents to fill them at most any WalMart. They usually have a machine near the back of the store just for such purposes.

We're down 148'8" into an aquifier that has been rated #2 the country. We don't travel with much of a load water but do carry about ten gallons. We've never had a problem but then we don't have to use softener or filters.

Each well is different and if it isn't causing any problems like rust rings or calcium in their stick house why would it cause problems in their TT? Like I said before I would advise the OP to use their own water and not worry about it. I filter campground water and only use it for showering and such not drinking I use bottled water for that

Water Characteristics
I never used to carry water, never had problems with water in any campground, until last July when we arrived to find the campground system was shut down due to contamination. Luckily, my "never" rule had been ignored, as the TT was new to us and I had been keeping and using water in the tank just to check its effect on TT behaviour. (The tank is forward in the unit, Immediately inside cabin wall). So we were ok for that night, and left the next day. I will now be sure to carry at least one night's supply.
I will not, however buy bottled water unless I am in a situation where the local supply is contaminated, or perhaps subject to distasteful characteristics (such as high sulphur content). Even then, I find the Brita filter system works very well.

X-2. I also travel with numerous gallon jugs of my great well water. If you travel to L.A. their municipal water is treated sewer water. Gross!!

I agree, I have used my well water for 10 years, with no adverse effects. I also have friends who have well water and have to drink bottled water. Bottom line, use water from a trusted source.

Our municipal water here is from wells, with a very high calcium level. Our doctor once quipped that you could identify the locals by their great teeth and gallstones. The taste is excellent, but it does tend to wreak havoc on plumbing valves and fixtures, which is easily solved by the use of a water softener. We have also added a Reverse Osmosis system to remove any residual salt which may remain from the softener, so we have no complaints.

I have no problem drinking well, but you should give some thought to hauling with a full water tank. Lots of weight and some tanks not real secure. We drink bottle water but use campground water foe everything else.

I understand some units have tank issues.
With that said... I bought my R/V to use and to be able to use all aspects of it.
If you can't haul a tank of water in your R/V it's time to investigate why or maybe it's time to move to another unit.

If you use well water remember most outside faucets bypass water softener.

I reinforced my tank mounting so I can haul if I need to. Justing pointing out the issue. But I rarely haul because of the added weight.
