Where do you store your tote......

Ok I am not sure how many use totes but we have a 4 wheel tote and I would love to see some pics of where you store yours? I would love to put it in the bed of the truck but I donít have the room and Iím afraid it would fly out.

All advice would be appreciated.

While I don't have one, yet, seen many strapped to rear ladders, empty of course. Been thinking of getting one myself and if I do I will join the strap to the ladder club.

I should have stated that while I have a ladder it is mounted on the drivers side of the 5er so that’s out.

My friend got a piece of the wire shelving you would use in a closet and painted it black. He cut it to fit his needs. It had a 90 degree section on one side what was a couple inches deep. It made a shelf for the tan. He then used a couple of the clamps to hold it to the bumper.

I've seen them strapped to the rear ladder, Tied down onto a rack from a bumper hitch on the back of the RV, IN pictures posted standing up in peoples showers in their camper. My ladder is also on the drivers side of the camper and although I have a toyhauler and could fit it in the trailer behind the golf cart, I'm pretty sure if I have to take it somewhere we are staying that doesn't have FHU's, It's going to ride in the truck bed on it's side strapped down. The little lady would kick my $%& to Texas if I told her I was putting it in the shower. Besides, ours has glass doors which would likely not survive many highway potholes before they shattered if it was in there.

Our TT came with a rear mounted 200lb bumper rack. Two Totes went in front storage compartment and I mounted a large plastic tool box to the bumper rack. Fit a lot of stuff in it and still had room to strap down my charcoal grill next to it.

I'm able to sneak a 28 gallon tote behind the 5er hitch after hooking up. Its low enough that there are no clearance problems.

Barker blue tote 25 gal.
Camco RV tote carrier.
Mounted the carrier on my TT back bumper. I can carry the tote on it's side (as pictured) or straight up and down. It's not hard putting the tote on the carrier and there is plenty of room between the tote and back of TT (so the tote does not rub the TT).
The carrier was super easy to install. Comes with U bolts and straps. Carrier was made for Rhino totes but it works well with the Barker tote.
I'm pleased with the set up.

(in the pics the tote is not strapped on the carrier correctly, I just finishing installing the carrier and took pics of it)

Yea, years ago before any internet forums, all our RV friends called them ďtote-a-turdĒ. I believe they were marketed as waste water totes.

While I don't have a ladder on my TT, I have 3 suggested places you can store the tote for transit:
1) I stand my Thetford 35 gal 2 wheeled Smart Tote II vertically in the back of my truck next to the tailgate and strap it down with a ratchet strap.
2) At first I was strapping the tote tank to the top of the propane bottles, wedged between the bottles and the TT wall I noticed that the paint on the TT was beginning to scuff, so I decided to transfer to the truck with all the bicycles and firewood. If you use this method, be sure to pad the wall side to avoid the scuffing.
3) I have read about several campers constructing a tote rack under the TT. If you have enough ground clearance, and can work with angle iron, this seems to be the most rugged method, though it may require crawling under the RV to remove and/or replace the tote.

Whichever way you decide to do it, if you are going to put the empty tank inside the RV, make very sure it is well cleaned and drained before you store it.

Good Camping .............. Swampy

No Name Campground in SD outside Sturgis has a guy that will come and dump your black tank and takes it and empties it at their dump station. Will use your tote or has one also.
