With all the cabinets we built, I figure I might as well leave it under the bed, as I think we'll have excess storage

When we had our Rockwood 2604, I took the spare and put it in the bed of the trk up against the from and used a cargo strap to secure it there. Yes it took up a LITTLE bed space but with it standing up the way I secured it, it wasn't an issue. That and it took almost 75lbs off the rear bumper tube of the trl.

if were me I would buy a spare tire carrier off ebay and mount it to your ramp gate. not to hard really just put the gate down and hold the tire up where it clears the base of the camper and ground. mark the location and find the studs in the ramp gate and bolt it to it. you might have to make a piece of 1/4" thick aluminum to span the studs to bolt the carrier too but not hard to do.

I put my spare between the frame rails in front, under the pass thru storage area.
I drilled 2 holes thru the floor of the storage area and put a piece of angle iron inside
the storage area with 2 long carriage bolts sticking thru the angle iron and out the
underside of the trailer. I put those 2 bolts thru 2 lug holes in my spare and spun on
a large washer and 2 nuts. The lower nut is a nylock nut that won't vibrate off even
if it's loose.
It's a bit of a pain to get out but in nearly 5 years I haven't needed it!

On the back bumper it was in the way, in the weather and if I covered it, wasps
would ALWAYS build nests in the cover!
