Wolf Pup beds significantly shorter than frame?

Greetings, all.

I am in the market for my first trailer and I'm narrowed down to the Wolf Pup 17RP, I think. I've got a still new 2015 model near me that's for sale and, after looking at it, I'm confused on why there's such a large gap between the bed cushion and the walls. I'm looking at between 6 and 8 inches of exposed plywood paneling on both the top and bottom bunk. Is this common? If so, why the gap?

My guess is they have the short queen mattress on a standard queen frame. Don't worry about that, odds are you will be buying a new mattress. The stock mattresses suck...
