A/c issue

Just returned from a trip to Florida. On our way back the front air conditioner quit working on our 2015 351 DS Georgetown. After investigation I found that the breaker was tripped. I reset the breaker and it seemed to work fine. However It continues to happen periodically only when running off the generator. It doesn't occur when plugged in. Any thoughts?

There are several threads going on right now about running (or not) of A/C's on generator's in your rigs.

It boils down to the generator is not big enough.

Is it a shared breaker with another one (ie split breaker)? Sometimes they'll heat up during the summer months and pop like your saying.

I have a Georgetown 378 and was having the same problem initially until I realized that my water heater was on .shut it off and now i run front Ac and refrigerator no problem. What it boils down to is generators are not big enough.

Correct...a 5500 should be strong enough on its own but when other things are drawing off it too, then that's what happens most often.

If its just the AC breaker tripping (20amp I think), then that breaker might be weak and/or over heating. I had to replace my AIVbreaker during the first year of ownership. Breaker was one of those dual ones in one size. My AC shared with the main (30 amp) and would get hot to the touch. My box had a spare slot unused. Went to Home Depot and bought two regular single breakers. 30 amp to replace my main and a 20 amp for the AC. No problems since for 5 years.
