I have one in my Jeep. I just took six cb radios to the thrift store. Better tax deduction than I could sell them for.

I recently did the Thrift store with my Dad's 23 channel Midland, and 2 Lafayette TUBE radios. One was the base station and the other I remember hanging beneath the dash of his Galaxie 500.

Bought my DW a portable one for Christmas. Use it when there is a traffic jam.

Are Google Maps updated every 10 - 15 minutes? Or even as little as 5 min?

GMRS

GMRS is going to be no-license soon, and dropping to much less power.
Older units will be grandfathered.
I have two GPS/GMRS radios, from Garmin, that will spot on the map, where the other is speaking from. Great for hunting or cross country travel.
I also use a mobile Ham radio (2 meter and 70CM) and a hand held unit. The mobile is 50 watts, the HT is 5 watts.
You can buy a Baofung HT for under 50 dollars almost anywhere. I paid 25 for mine, used, and it works great.
Cell phone with Waze is good, and my truck satellite radio also has two years of free storm warnings and weather maps.
Finally, Satellite phones are getting cheaper, and air time is getting cheaper too.

Traffic updates are live. It will also tell me how far the back up is, how long it will add to my drive and suggest faster routes if any are available.

I use Google but prefer WAZE. DW and I can never agree which one is better or what to use, that's a whole other popcorn session.

Question for the radio guys:
Are there any ham radios that also work in the cb range?

For now I decided to go with a Cobra 29 LX and a Wilson 1000 magnetized rooftop mount antenna. Not a lot of money and a little extra peace of mind. I may switch it out for something else later, always thought amateur radio was kinda interesting.

We're planning to move back to Texas in the next year or so, I'll probably install some kind of radio in the war department's truck and whatever the boy is driving (he's 15 now.) That way we can all keep in contact during the move.

I use Google maps along with the POIs from lowclearances.com and download the maps for offline use. Google has routed me around road construction and accidents a few times.

Are there any ham radios that also work in the cb range?

Because of wattage, I reckon? I don't know a lot (read: nothing) about radios.
