Coachmen Mirada brake sound

Newbie with a 2015 Coachman Mirada 35BH... previous RV was a Sunseeker 3170.

Question is this... what type of braking system is on my unit? There is a "whine" when I hit the brake peddle. Even when the coach is not running the brake pedal makes a sound.. Cant find any documentation on this..

Thanks in advance

Does it make the sound when you are standing still and you press the brake pedal? If so its the pump that does the braking assist. In no then you have a problem.

It only makes the sound when using the brake. Even if the ignition is off and I step on the brake it makes a pump running sound.

That would be right, its a Ford F53 motor home? Look near your master cylinder under the hood, there should be a small round pump attached.

Thanks.

Sound threw me off. My 2014 Sunseeker with the Ford v10 didn't make any braking sounds and the steering didn't whine.

This Coachmen also has a whine to the steering in low speeds.

Just checking to make sure this is normal 😉

Coachman Mirada brake sound

Update: so checked the power steering fluid level and it was so low that even after adding 2 small bottles of power steering fluid it still is not registering on the dip stick. Though the whining sound has gone away. I guess back to the dealer this week. Don't they check these things during the PDI? This is a brand new coach with 750 miles on it.

I think you just answered your own question.

I agree, you would think they could/would at least check fluid levels on the engine.

When I said it was low that was a understatement... just finished topping it off. It took 2 WHOLE qt's of power steering fluid until it was at the full mark on the dip stick.

I do believe I would check the engine oil, the tranny, radiator and crawl underneath and check the rear end just to be safe.

Yep. Already checked the engine oil. Did that the first day before driving it off the lot. Now I will check everything including the generator oil.

Yes that is a battery powered hydraulic pump which backs up the belt driven steering pump. The brake booster is supplied by steering fluid in normal operation. The Economy chassis is much smaller than the F-53 and the V10 is smaller in power and features than in the F-53.

Happy you caught it before more damage occurred, now you have a basic understanding of those systems.

Yes glad I caught it. Happy, no. Its a brand new chassis, should not have a leaking power steering unit. I understand the coach is going to have things that need fixed, but not the actual chassis from Ford.
