Jeeps made to be towed
We tow our 2013 auto wrangler
Just put transfer case in neutral
We tow in park. Our year doesn't have steering lock so no need for key in ignition. Not sure yours. Easy to flat tow

I haven't bought one yet. Just trying to see if I need manual or can I use automatic without racking up miles on it or having to unhook the transmission??

You can buy an automatic
That's what ours is
If you are buying a wrangler, 2013 and later don't have steering wheel lock. Just shift transfer case into neutral, and tranny into park. Odometer doesn't change.

All jeep wranglers can be flat towed
When you put transfer case in neutral the vehicle just free-wheels

My 2008 JK doesn't have an ignition lock either. Almost all set up to tow, just awaiting one final part.

Just what has been related above. Any current model Wrangler (auto or manual) can be flat towed. I have a 2015 Sport (2 door) with auto trans. The manual says put the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in Park. As has been mentioned, there's no steering wheel lock, so it's not necessary to leave the key in the ignition on accessory (and pull fuses) to flat tow.

Be aware that there is such a thing as a 2 wheel drive Wrangler (4-door?) - it cannot be flat towed or dolly towed. And of course there are other Jeep products that are also 2 wheel drive that also lack the transfer case.

That being said, I love my Jeep Wrangler as a flat toad. I use Blue Ox gear and it is near effortless.

Point well taken. Guess I wasn't aware that you could get a 2WD Wrangler (why would you want one?).

Just finished equipping mine to tow yesterday... went with the Mopar wiring harness, Blue Ox bracket, and Ready Brute Elite tow bar & braking system.
