E450 Factory Recall
Any owners of 2014 3010ds (2013 Chassis) get a letter from Ford to have the Powertrain Control Module re programed to new emission standards? If so did you notice any drive ability differences?

I wonder if you have to do this if you don't live in Ca or Mass.

I would be real leary about the update. When they did this in the past on other vehicles it killed fuel mileage. Then again a gasser V10 can't get much worse, or can it?
Can someone post the TSB #?

It's not a TSB, it's a regular recall. Just got my notice in mail yesterday from Ford.
Listed as ... Emission Recall 15E05.
I'm going to take the "wait and see" path. Have the 5 Star Tune, which if I get the recall done, I'll have to re-do the computer back to stock, and re download the 5 Star after their done.

O.K. Sounds like you're on top of it. Definitely don't want to lose your tune. That goes for anyone running a tuner, ALWAYS return it to stock BEFORE you bring it in for service. Ford has been known to do updates without even telling you and you'll lose the tune file.

To those of you that are running a "tune" like 5 Star, be aware that if you get the recall done, MAKE SURE you upload the stock tune back to your vehicle BEFORE you take it in. If you don't, when Ford reprograms your ECU, you will lose the tune.
After the recall is compleated, you can then go and re-enter the 5 Star Tune to the ECU.
You can upload and reverse back to stock as many times as you want without any loss of the "tune", so don't worry about any loss of performance to the 5 Star.

I like this approach as there is no time limitation on my letter from Ford. That being said, I am curious as to what the impact of the update might be.

Smog check
Well we got the recall notice last Tuesday on our 2012. Our smog check was due and we had the check done yesterday and as with previous years it passed without any problems. I guess we will wait now and see what happens to those that have the recall performed before we try it, or not.

Guys with 5 star tunes,
If you reprogram the PCM to stock, take it to Ford so they can reprogram it for new emission tuning, then you reprogram it with your 5 star, won't you wipe out the changes that Ford just made? What's the point of taking it to Ford?

x2, unless it is just to pass inspection, then return to good settings.

Any time you visit a Ford dealer they should be looking for any open Recalls and TSB's on your chassis. If you don't do the Recall, and later visit a dealer, they could load the new OEM tune while you are in the shop without even asking you. And that would delete your 5 Star tune... It's safer to let them do the Recall when you want it done, and then reload your tune, rather than to chance it later....

That makes sense. I've never taken our E450 to the dealer. We've not needed any warranty repair. I'll call them and find out if there are any bulletins that I need to know about.

If you have a 5 star tune and your vehicle has to go for emissions (smog) testing, you may have to return the vehicle to stock and drive it for a while before getting the test done. I had the 5 star on a f350 with the 6.8 and it failed with the tune on. I believe the tune does not run all of the required emissions reporting that the stock tune does. After returning the it to stock and driving it for a day it passed.
