Flat towing hook up price ?

Getting ready to get our new Honda Crv ready to flat tow. Getting prices for the set has been a little shocking. Camping worlds price is $3.500. Any suggestions ?

What in the world are they including?

I bought a new (replacement) Roadmaster Sterling tow bar in Goshen and only paid $962 (just for the bar, already had the towing set up on the Jeep)

I had ordered the roadmaster base plate from CW about a year ago and it was less than $400, I also had CW install the base plate and do the wiring on our 2013 Jeep Wrangler.
At most all together, we have paid less than $1600

Sounds like a good deal if it includes the CRV. If you can't do the install yourself check with a local rv repair facility. Get quotes from know-how's.

CRV Setup

I just had a 2014 CRV setup for towing with baseplates and wiring. It cost me about $1300 including parts. You also need to add the tow bar and a supplemental brake system. Did Camping World's price include all of that? If it did $3500 isn't far off the mark.

I installed myself. I have all blue ox and have about $2000 in base plate, light kit, tow bar, and brake system. Took a weekend to install.

OK I called them back and asked a few questions. Specifically why their labor was so high. He said he quoted me a price from a Silverado they had just finished ?? Refigured mine and quoted $2.600 this time. Went by UHaul and they can do it for 2.400. These prices are for everything needed. Waiting until Monday to hear from our RV dealer to decide.

Am so frustrated with camping world and their pricing. After getting a verbal quote of $2.600. I called this morning for a written quote to be emailed to me. The quote this time $3732.51. Will not be doing business with them.

Took mine to local body and paint shop who installed the front tow mount from e-trailer for $100.00. I installed the Roadmaster InvisiBrake system myself on it's own tow light circuit. I think I have $1600 in complete system including the Falcon 2 tow bar.

I talked to someone this weekend about pulling a CRV four down and he recommend not even though the owners manual says its safe up to 65 mph. He cautioned that when they say 65 they mean 65 and not 70.
Was there anything special you did to the CRV to make it's transmission good to tow? I would hate to think we have to constantly watch our speed or risk destroying the transmission in this thing.

Yes the manual does say not to tow over 65 which is not a problem for us cause we stay between 60 & 65. Also there are special instructions. Run car 5 minutes then go thru all gears..run engine an additional 3 minutes in neutral. Shut off.. leave in acc mode to keep steering wheel free from locking. Repeat every 8 hrs or 500 miles. Of course this is on a automatic CRV. Heard of others that have towed the CRV with no problems. Looking forward to many trips towing this one. Eve
