FR# need extended warranty

Ok guys!
I just purchased a new 2014 forest river FR-3 and the dealer wants to sell me an extended warranty for my motor home for 6 years, covers about anything, and with a $200 deductible for each visit, for the price of $2006.
My question is does anyone out there know of a good place to buy an extended warranty policy for a better price? I only have a couple of days left to make up my mind to purchase this at this price or it goes up in price
Thanks
Larry

Never had one, never needed it since 1972. I usually go 4 years and out.

Had one with my previous motorhome, paid approx. $2100.00....had it for 5 years and never used it. I decided not to buy it with the FR 3.

We believe in extended warranties. Had a blow out in our last MH. Took out all the basements behind rear tire along with a high wiring harness and things I can't even begin to tell you. Claim: over 10 grand. I paid a $500 deductible.
That was Good Sam. For this new MHZ I have, purchased warranty at dealer. Cost approximately $25 month vs approximately $40 for GS. Course I pray we never have to use it.

hope that neither one of us has to use it but good to have just in case. Enjoy your travels and maybe our paths will cross.

Don't take the salespersons word for it. See what "Covers almost everything" really covers. More important see what it won't cover. Then go shop the Good Sam Warranty. Many companies go out of business annually and take your money with them..I don't buy any extended warranties...

Think I may put that $2000 in a jar and save IT for emer repairs, in case I need it in the future, unless I find some other policy out there that sounds good.

I have a $200 deductible and it has already been used to replace the frig that started to leak $3200 to replace vs $200 was a good choice. no deductible on tire replacement either. That is why I chose GS. No questions asked they just took care of it.

Different answer

We are looking at the FR3 also and the salesman told us that it did qualify for the 2nd year of warranty from Forest River. Now I am confused. How do we find out the real answer?

We paid $40 a month for GS for a $500 deducible policy for 4 years on our last coach. They paid for a new AC, but didn't pay for an electrical problem that cost me $1,300. So we paid $1960 plus $1300 and got $900 (after the deductible). Doesn't pencil out. I'll take my chances with the FR3.

the 2nd year Forest River factory warranty is ONLY available on towables, not motorhomes.

Dakota, your salesman appears to be a typical one in that he doesn't know what he's talking about or he will tell you anything to make the sale.

I agree with you and he may have just lost a sale because of that. He did not even know about the powertrain warranty. He told me that the motorhome only came with a one year warranty that covered everything and that we would have to purchase an extended warranty if we wanted more coverage. I do not like nor will I put up with salesmen like that. We are going Friday to another dealership to look at other motorhomes. Maybe we can find a better salesman at one of the other dealerships. Thanks to this forum we can get the correct information so that when we go to look at new units we are better prepared with the correct information.

Thanks to all,

The worst thing you can do is buy anything extra from the dealership. They always, and I mean always, overcharge whether it's an extended warranty to sealer for the RV. You will always get a better deal from an outside source. We went with GS. the finance guy at the dealership will try to pressure you and say their plan is the best. BS!!!!!!!!!!

Check out the above on any extended plans for RV's and review the coverage, exclusions etc. the make an informed decision. Only you can determine if it's a value purchase.
