Heat exhaust covers

I just received this months issue of Motor Home magazine. They mention the screen covers for the heater exhaust ports on the outside of the MH.

They say to make sure to remove them before using the furnace. I don't understand that. If they were meant to come off during use, why would they use a screen instead of a solid cover?

Thanks.

Some people add screens to the factory cover to keep pests out

Yes, I guess I didn't explain myself well (I have that bad habit).

I have added those screens, but the magazine said to be sure to remove them before using the furnace and I was wondering the reason. The only one I could come up with is the heat transferring to the screen might cause some damage to the siding that it rests on ? Not sure.

Thanks for the reply.

That, or maybe the screen makes it too restrictive for the air to flow out freely?

Have run those screens on every camper we've had that had a furnace with no detrimental effect whatsoever.

Yes, 2 springs from the exhaust to the wire mesh. One hooked it the intake and one in the exhaust.

Great !!! Thanks for taking the time to reply. The article had me concerned about doing something to the siding. I probably should write them to ask why.

Have a great weekend !!

I just ordered some new screens since my neighbors horses were kind enough to remove them for me. I received them yesterday and the instruction state to check them periodically and make sure they are clean to insure proper air flows.
