Inverter Usage

Being new to having a MH with an inverter, I just wanted to get some opinions on how folks typically use them. My inverter has two functions: an inverter and a trickle charger. I keep the charger function turned on all the time. Do you usually keep the inverter turned on while connected to shore power or only when not connected? Being as we're in Florida, we quite often have the generator running while driving to keep everything cooled down. Does it hurt anything to leave the inverter turned on when connected? Thanks for any input. Have a safe holiday!

Do you mean a converter or inverter. Generally and inverter does not produce a trickle charge for the batteries unless it is a charger/trickle charger/inverter combo. Does your "inverter" produce 120 volts?

Sorry - should have explained better. Yes, it's a combo converter/inverter by Magnum Energy. There are buttons on the control unit for battery charging and for inverting; you can choose either/or.
