MBS Engine Oil

Since there is no specific MBS site, I will use the "General" section to remind those with new MBS units to read their user manual carefully before adding/changing their engine oil. The 2015 manual states that you MUST use a MB approved oil which meets MB spec 228.51 or 229.31 or 229.51 and it must state on the container "MB-Approved". When in Walmart looking at oils that appeared to be satisfactory, I saw "meets MB 229.3" or "229.5", but not 229.31 or 229.51 for example. "Meets" is not the same as "Approved", nor is "229.3" the same as "229.31".

This topic has been discussed at length in the Solara section of the forum so go there for more information. I just offer this as a quick heads up if you are looking for oil to put in your new MBS as I am.

Napa and Amazon have the proper Mobil 1 that MB approves. Amazon also has the MB branded black label version. Avoid Walmart and Penzoil.

Currently on sale at NAPA stores as a featured item for the September '15 monthly flyer. Stock up, as you won't see it till Spring for that price again. Mobil 1 spec 229.52. Most other oils havn't cleared the hurtle yet.

Since they now have multiple applications for this oil, (i.e. gas and diesel) you might see wally world kick mobil around and bust the pricing on this, but not yet.
