MH accident in gas station!

OK! How do you do this much damage in a gas station lot? This is a 2019 or 2020 Georgetown XL, still has the temp tags on it. Am I the only one that drives less than 5mph in parking lots! Jeez!

Been dragging a 37’ fifth wheel 10,000 miles in the last two years.

I am the biggest chicken there is. We almost always use truck stops for fuel and just pay the extra toll there for the easy access!

Wife constantly tells me to swing wide!

Adding insult to injury, the tow driver takes out the passenger mirror.

H I seen that, although he said it just swung back! I’m sure there is some looseness after that impact. The guy is good, I’ve seen some of his other videos of rescuing cars and trucks off the beach. As well as some coaches hung up or 5’ers in the ditch! I’ll chalk that one up to towing that length into the yard.

Curious to know just how fast he was going when he hit. Notice the door would not close when the they were ready to pull it out. Sprung the door from impact I suspect. Driver looked like a real winner.

Ohh my, I don't feel so bad. My first fill up I grazed the pump barrier post. Most of my damage was cosmetic, but I learned quickly to keep a wide berth around pumps.

I was reading the comments section of the video, which had this one copied below:

Randy Carlisle

This is why many states require CDL’s for most motorhomes. That gas station was nowhere near big enough for that motorhome, he had no business being in there, at all. Rookie
----------------------------

After reading the above comment, I was not aware if any state had a CDL requirement on a private use motorhome, even a Class A...so that made me go look.

I did find this site, if the information is accurate, while most states do NOT require a CDL, a few do if it's over 45 feet.

Few years ago my neighbor caught the cap on a fire hydrant on the corner of his pad he was camped on. Tore about a 6 foot gash down the side of the trailer from just behind rear wheel to just about the back end of trailer.

First trip in my motorhome, I was very careful backing up into my front yard. Had 2 spotters to check the clearance at the rear and the roof (under a large Live Oak branch). With all the attention at the back, I didn't see my neighbor's mail box across the street.

OOPS!

Did almost the same thing to a Costco cart corral. Forgot what I was driving and turned like I would in my car. Oops!
I was going much slower and only scraped paint before I stopped.

Don't feel bad OP. Get it fixed, sell it and buy a Prius and tent.

I don't believe the OP did this. It's a video he found.

The way that market that stuff I'd be willing to bet that the distributor had a new sign on-site within an hour after everything was cleared away!

That driver could be a member of this forum and you just insulted him because of how he looks. I suspect a good number of us wouldn't want be be seen like that either.

I’d be physically ill over it, as I imagine he was. What a shame. There but for the grace...go we.

SOOO many ways to get in trouble. Like doing a U-turn to get to a camp ground. Let's say on a 4-lane divided highway in Kentucky. Make a wide turn in a long motorhome pulling a toad. Not wide enough. Stop, block the highway, give DW instructions to get her out of being paralyzed, unhook jeep, backup and then go around brick mailbox. Geez. We lucked out but saw many birds that day.
