Shower Drain

Has anyone ever replaced the drain in their shower? Mine started to leak the last time my wife and I were out. The little plastic ring around the grate cracked. I ordered a new drain assembly and it should be in by the weekend.

Anyone have any advice, tips, or tricks?

You can get a metal drain at Home Depot. When I replaced mine they called it a "bar sink drain"
